Immortality/Fountain of Youth spell

Are there any spells out there that renders the target immortal or would reduce physical effects of aging? Or, along those lines, a spell that would change the type of the target to something that doesn't age, such as an Outsider? Perhaps an Epic spell could be created to accomplish this? Thanks for the help!

In Arcana Evolved there is a spell like that.

In game terms, immortality (as in "never dying of old age") is relatively inconsequential to PCs. I've never had a PC die of old age. They tend to die of owlbear.

Closest I know of is Steal Life from BoVD. Cast on a full moon, it lets you ability drain someone and become 1 week younger for every point drained.

Remember to find a commoner and cast this on him once every year or so and you can live forever. Or until you get killed by questing paladins.

Closest core thing i can think of is just getting reincarnated every couple decades... A fun new young adult body to wear out!

I imagine an epic level spell could be created... or just hand-waived by the DM... I mean, living forever is alright... my air genesai wizard can do it for only a +1 LA... still doen't protect me from that arrow of slaying though.

For some reason I can't fathom, they seem really anal about extending lifespan in 3rd ed.

I don't get it. As many others have said, it's not like adventurers normally die of old age or anything. What's the harm?

i think it's a way of limiting the level of power that PCs can reach. if a PC can live forever (or a very long time), it gives that character years and years to keep adventuring and leveling up. eventually, the character could conceivably surpass the levels of the most powerful beings in the game/campaign/world.

messy :)

There is an epic spell called Ioulaum's Longevity. Ioulaum used is to prolong his life. I don't have Lost Empires of Faerûn handy right now, but I think it dealt damage (20d6 or something) to living beings in a large radius, and the lifeforce sucked out would be converted into extry time for you. I don't know the details right now.

Preventing immortality probably has something to do with the fact that mortal creatures get smarter and wiser as they age.

Cool, thanks everyone!

As some pointed out, your character never dies of natural causes. I've actually never used the aging chart in a campaign (although I used it once to make a 70 year old character). More than likely aging will never be a problem but immortality would be perfect for the concept of the character.
