Immortality/Fountain of Youth spell

As some pointed out, your character never dies of natural causes.

In my opinion, when it comes to adventurers, getting your brain sucked out by a monster is natural causes.

Absolutely right. It's all a matter of definition.

Terry Pratchett explained it a lot: He said that a lot of wizards died of natural causes. If you fail to search your bed for scorpions before you go to sleep, your death is only natural at this point.

He also said that suicide was quite common on the Discworld: If you wander into the Shades, walk up to a troll and say "hey, pebbles, your face sure is ugly", that is suicide.

Yeah. Ditto on that Elan.

I played an elan psion. He was something like 5000. Of course, he had lots of ranks in all the major knowledge skills. He wore clothes that went out of style aeons before.

It was fun to treat the other characters a bit like children. "Netheril? Yeah, they had some decent things going, but I remember that they become pretty arrogant once they evolved from a simple village. They made a mighty fine brew of ale in that village, though."

As long as you contribute to the party and don't overdo it, a character like this can be quite enjoyable. Note that he wasn't smug about his knowledge, or arrogant. Mostly told ancient knowledge matter-of-factly.

Plus, you haven't really played D&D until you have called elven elders "youngsters" and "whippersnappers"

You know by D&D rules its perfectly plausible to have a young adult reach epic status, where they can potentially challenge established epic NPCs like, say, Manshoon.

They probably didnt want to give many options for extended life in order to be "realistic". I mean we already have so many heroes, kings, VIPs, dying in novels and such, and its like "HELLO 5k gp nets you a raise dead spell! You are the goddamn king of corymr or something!".

They probably didnt want people doing the same thing about VIPs not drinking the potion/casting that spell/whatever.

Ioulaem's longeveity's radius is about the size of a city i believe. For some reason Ioulaem decided to transfer his soul into a illithid elder brain, and thats his current form for like a few hundred/thousand years? Oh while doing so he faked his death so his lover would get pissed and retaliate at the mind flayers by casting Ioulaem's longevity in their city, wiping it out, and destroying all copies of the spell(except the one ioulaem has, and the one she has i believe).

There has to be a seriously good novel behind this story. I hope there is.
