Firmament Dragon Repost (commentary) There it is, my first stab at making a proper Immortals Handbook super-dragon. I left the CR calculations for later in the original post; up above in this series I put in the rough estimates I worked out on my own (it's a tough nut to crack and I'm still not sure I got it right due to the unusual nature of the breath weapon and not knowing how the Mind Warp should affect the CR exactly). It's worth noting that although I left VSC adjustments out of the tables above for clarity, I added them in when calculating CRs- and oh boy do VSCs at these sizes give absurdly huge boosts! The Great Wyrm gained over +600 to its EL from its VSCs alone, though the last one (the sixth) was by far the largest adjustment over the others (the number works out to +200 exactly). The lion's share of these huge VSC boosts is in the damage increases to the beast's Full Attack, of course- a Great Wyrm's Bite deals a whopping 40d10 more damage in base dice than the Wyrm's Bite does. It's also worth noting that these CR calculations assumed both a shape allowing the dragon 1 Bite, 2 Claws, 6 Wings, and 1 Tail Slap in its Full Attack, and also that the Rapidstrike feats from Draconomicon are being used (which lets the dragon get iterative attacks with its Claws and Wings). Given how many feats even the Wyrmling has, any dragon able to take these feats would likely do so. Finally, my calculations were made using version 5 of the CR calculation document; I don't have Grim Tales (which was apparently a slightly newer version than the version 5 PDF circulated on the Net) and AFAIK only Krust has version 6. :) Comments? Questions? Rotten vegetables? :D
