Impressions from KotS

Yeah, that your gas is really cheap! I worked out that I paid nearly $8.50 for a US gallon the other week. RPG products look positively bargain basement... ;)
Ouch! And I thought gas here in New Zealand was expensive! We're paying roughly US$6.00 per gallon at the moment. US$8.50 definitely tops that! Just one more reason why I'm glad I don't live in the UK ... ;)

I wasn't comparing 4e to any other version of D&D; I was comparing D&D to other role playing games. My group plays all sorts of different games using many different systems, so I was trying to explain (to them) how D&D differs from other systems.
Ah ok. I'm not really familiar with any RPGs that aren't D&D so I'll just have to take your word for it.

Overall, I was very impressed with how well Keep on the Shadowfell embraced the goal of "make things easy for the DM."
From what I've heard, though, the encounters are still quite deadly. From my experience with WotC's 3.x adventures, they appear to enjoy throwing their "balanced encounter" guidelines out the window when designing official adventures. :p

Yeah I love my MEGAMAT, its gotta be 9 feet long :)
Wow! I didn't know they made them that big. My mom got me the biggest megamat Chessex had on their website for my birthday and it's not that big! It's only about 3 feet long, I think. It covers the table quite nicely.

Chessex makes a Mondomat that's 54” x 102” (137cm x 259cm)...

... I only mention this because your posts have made me want one. Evile!!

Wow. That is pretty big. You'd have to have a pretty big table for that one!

Oh, and for the record, Tact-tiles sound neat but if they're impossible to get, then I'll just stick with my new megamat. It really is the bee's knees! Waaay better than what I used to use (dry-erase markers on A4 transparency sheets placed on top of the the fold-out grid from the 3.5 DMG). And I've had no trouble getting the marker off. It's great!

I have a question about the second level of the keep. I am not sure which exit leads to the second level also the mod implies that there is more to getting to the level then just walking down the stairs but i find no mention of it. anyone know where i should look?

While the adventure seems pretty solid it seems like the quick start rules were pretty much slapped together at the last minute.

Well I got my copy yesterday, and I'm about three quarters of the way through. While I agree with the comments about the quality of the paper for the books (even just a cardboard cover would have helped a lot), the adventure itself is looking intriguing.

My group is going to be starting it tonight, and then deciding once we've seen it in play whether to go for a wholesale swap to 4th edition, or stick with our old campaign. But at the moment I'm cautiously optimistic, which to be honest is more than I was previously. :)

My group just did this last night. We have two DMs in the group, myself and another, and our group plays Pathfinder at the moment. For KotS, I DMed and the other DM played. The players enjoyed the game while us DMs had a more negative reaction.

Having played some at DDXP, I was pretty excited going in and had a feeling that I'd be starting a new 4e campaign after this (my books are on pre-order for a Midnight Madness sale)---and, wow, I really hated running this game. The whole thing felt entirely too cold and too alien---and I now know with certainty that Pathfinder is the correct choice for me.
