Improving Turn Resistance

Need a few ways to increase an undead's turn resistance or have total resistance to turning. I just want to add it to some of my more powerful or more special undead. Can't let that dastardedly Cleric of Lathander destroy the big bads too easily.

Necromancer's Legacy (which I wrote and is available from Mystic Eye Games in print, as well as the PDF version which is somewhat smaller and goes by the monicker of Thee Compleat Librum ov Gar'Udok's Necromantic Artes) contains several spells that improve turn resistance (as well as some other traits) within the area of effect, as well as a feat that grants +3 Turn Resistance.

Get thyself an evil cleric, and have him cover the villains' entire lair with unhallow spells. (Give him lots of lead time, it takes 24 hours to cast.) Once the heroes show up, have him use his turning attempts to bolster the undead against turning.

custom made magic item, pendants that the big bad undead wear... using unhallow and descerate spells as requirements. unless your pcs control undead (which i doubt given the cleric character you mention) they aren't going to be looting those magic items for themselves afterwards but it will help explain why they were difficult to turn.

It's your campaign and I'm not trying to second-guess you, but as food for thought: if a major villain is easy to turn, then sure that will be boring, but it can be rewarding to leave that small chance of turning intact for all but a campaign-ending Big Bad.

One of my fondest memories of a previous year-long campaign was when I managed to turn a lich. Even though that particular encounter proved to be easy, it was still a lot of fun and very rewarding.

There's a feat in the Savage Species called Improved Turn Resistance.

Freaking spot-on :D . Desecrate is good, too, if you don't have as much lead time, since it's only 2nd level, and gives a -3 to Turning checks.

Just to add to this, the effect of bolstering undead can't be understated. I know this gets away from the "turn resistance boost" question a bit, but if your BBEG's have access to numerous skeletons/zombies, they can be rendered almost unreachable. If the evil cleric bolsters mobs of smaller undead, they chew through turning damage *fast*. And if your BBEG is smart, he'll keep enough of them between himself and the cleric to act as a shield.....while Spring Attacking. :p

Okay, so maybe that's a bit tactics-specific, but you get the idea....5HD-equivalent skeletons sure do use up that turning damage.....

Lords of the Night: Zombies

Hey guys

If you are looking for those kinds of things, don't look further just pick up the new release from bottled imp games, a book called the Lords of the Night:Zombies.

It has in it all the things that you only dream for about zombies and some other undeads, you will find there info about augmenting undeads in ways that you have never thought possible and things like black turnings, and new class and prestige classe like the black surgeon that will change the way your undeads look and act, it's trully a must have book for anyone that loves undead or want to use undeads in his games.

Here is a review of the book :
