In Celebration of Randomosity!

Hey!

Now that you mention it I did fix the psionics, class, and level as well in the Lejendary Adventure game

Mental powers work perfectly within the whole of the magic system.

Archetypes are contained in the game's Orders, have Ranks, but selection of Order and/or skills (Abilities) is strictly up to the person so doing.

Capacity to perform any special skill, combat included, is stated in percentile chance, and altering that chance is determined by the player's assignment of experience (Merits).

What I have not included are as many randomized portions of play as I managed to do in the old DMG. It would have been a case of chewing one's cabbage twice...although I was tempted to do some duplication. Heaven knows I love random thing tables.

Horn tooting over :heh:

Please, all D&Ders!

Forgive me for that moment of madness when I was cajoled into including Psionics into the AD&D game.

 What a gaff that was!

There's nothing to forgive, good sir! Though the 1e version wasn't the best, it proved to be the foundation for 2e psionics (which I personally liked), which in turn led to the 3.0 and 3.5 psionics. As mentioned above, it turned out pretty good.

"Okay...hmm...do the attack and defense modes EACH get this number, or do I divide it in half?...uhh...so, which one is id insinuation (or "I.D. insinuation", to my young mind)? Okay, if the mind flayer uses mind whip, and you use tower of iron will...hang on..."

"Hey, we're gonna play old AD&D! No psionic characters, though!"

Heh-heh-heh!

Just so, and the way I have DMed since the book was written in 1978. One time using psionics was all I cared to hazard.

I can never forgive that eggregious error. It pains me to this day. May dread Cthulhu feast on your soul. ;)

Ah, it's so good to hear the anti-psionic speak. Couldn't stand 'em then, can't stand 'em now.

The one time we had a psionic PC in 1e, I think he was "blacklisted" by the rest of the party because he was taking up so much of the "spotlight" that everyone else was getting annoyed.

I think the best part was when the psionic PC had taken quite a bit of damage, and was at around 8 HP left, while another PC had taken 3 hp of damage. And the cleric decided to heal the guy who had taken 3 HP.

We all sort of contributed to that guy's dying, I must say. I think, next time we played, he opted not to roll on the table, for his own safety.

And, yeah, I love random tables, too.

FWIW...

I am completely in the anti-psionic camp...at least as I wrote them in OAD&D. I was not joking when I asked forgiveness :uhoh:

Cheers,
Gary

I would forgive you Gary, but, I actually got that darned thing to work back many years ago, and at the tender age of 13 no less. :) I guess you were just thinking with your youngin' cap on. :D
