In need of a Pirate Ship(s)

I'll take it a step further. I have recently discovered the wonder of pegboard and a dremel. If you are crafty at all you can build the equivilent of that balsa wood ship out of pegboard without much difficulty. You could use the cardboard template as a guide.

I can't see paying the $60 for the wooden ship on sale at Gencon / Paizo.

I also purchased World Works Games' ship, and love it to death.

I had to modify things slightly to fit what I was looking for, but man, talk about detailed instructions, and their forums are wonderful for asking for help!

Also, I remember thinking "This thing won't be sturdy at all" when I started out. It's completely not the case. Even using cardstock for most of the interior, I could probably chuck mine across the room with minimal damage. Not that I'd do that, but I'm just saying.

If you'll use it enough that you don't mind spending the money, the deluxe galleon from Dragonfire Lasercrafts is the best prop I've ever gotten for D&D. Holy cow, is it nice! The web site picture doesn't come close to doing it justice; I recommend it wholeheartedly.

I had the exquisite pleasure of being allowed to use Piratecat's ship at the last Boston GameDay. Now I want one of my own! (If you need a smaller ship or two, well, I have suggestions. They don't hold 20 crewmen; they do crash into bazaars.) They are lovely models and now that I've used one worth the investment.

World Works has a cardstock ship model that looks very nice. I have not actually purchased this product, but I have a couple of their dungeon sets and found them to be of good quality.

I'll add another vote for the World Works Games ship, the Maiden of the High Seas. I made one for my Savage Tide campaign and we use it a ton. It holds up pretty well during play but we usually leave the sails off since we always seem to be knocking them off anyway.

Also check out the MEGA blocks line called Pyrates. The scale is not perfect, but they look good on the table, are easy to assemble, and are reasonably priced ($30-$60).
I'll second this suggestion. Mega-Blocks not only makes Pyrates, but their Dragons line has a couple of good ships with it (which come with a big dragon), and my favorite, the Pirates of the Caribbean line. So the group can be sailing on the Junk, the Dutchman or the Black Pearl. I have picked up a few of these when they go on discount at the local megastore ("Something"-Mart), and I'm pretty happy with them.

The best part is the modular construction. I had picked up the Man O War about a year and a half ago, and in a friend of mine's game we were on a skyship which was three hull sections connected by walkways rather than one solid ship's hull. An evening spent reconfiguring the ship and I had exactly that. You can't beat that type of customization.

This is an extremely nice model. A more complex build than some, but the ship is big - about 28 inches long.

My favorite set from World Works, and well worth the time and trouble put into building it. It is both big and beautiful. :)

A fairly complete how to can be found on the Reaper Miniatures forum - here.

The Auld Grump, who used it for Mordheim and 7th Sea.

How many pages of card stock does this awesome looking ship require?

BTW guys, awesome links all around! Thanks for sharing! Wonder why a guy whose system is NOT 3E hangs around here? This thread is one of the reasons! Thanks!

I won't lie to you, there's a lot of sheets needed. I think It's some place around 50 sheets or so.
But believe me, it's worth every sheet.

50 sheets??!!? Holy samolians!! Lets see, about $50 to print out at Kinko's/Staples, and $17.00 to buy the PDF. Ouch!! But it does look awesome and also looks like a fun challenge to put together.

Love the fluff...

We're not even a third of the way there, and things are already getting rough. People and things keep turning up on my ship without my permission. I hadn't even had time to finish repairing the damage from the fire yet, and now I have to deal with that goo on the hull. (And I don't even want to think about that thing in the jar. Stupid, stupid passengers—why did I ever get out of the smuggling business?) I tell you, when I rechristened this ship The Ravaged Pride, I couldn't have been more right. I swear I don't get paid enough for this.
