In Nomine + D20 Modern?

First Post
Today I just played a game of "In Nomine". For those who don't know the game, it's a French game that was translated into English, and that some of you may know. Basically, it's about playing Angels (or Demons) in the modern world. Of course, Angels and Demons oppose each others, trying to do it covertly among mortals.

The game was very fun, but I don't really like the rules (must be too old, now I just want to stick with d20...). So, coming back from the gaming session, I thought about using Grim Tales or d20 Modern for a In Nomine game. I guess the only things necessary would be of creating Angel and Demon races, and then use the normal classes. I think I wouldn't give a level adjustment to these races, even while making them more powerful than humans. But maybe some restrictions for misbehaving.

Anyway, I am curious to know who among you know that game, and how you would turn it to d20.

Hey! A long time ago, I purchased a GURPS version of "In Nomine" because the subject matter seemed very interesting (and GURPS products have a history of being phenomenal gaming supplements, even if you don't play the system).

I once considered converting this system to d20 Modern, but I found it to be too difficult.
Unless, of course, you'd prefer to have the PC's play Celestials as written in the MM. Heck, even Half-Celestials are pretty tough, but you'd still have to tweak and add on too many different abilities (to distinguish between the various angels and demons) to make it worthwhile. Now, if you wanted the STYLE of In Nomine, that's much more doable.

OR...

Consider picking up the GURPS version of In Nomine, and then pick up BESM d20. Both systems are skill-based and character creation is based on a point-buy system for abilities --you could easily transfer one over to the other THAT way. :)

I too have the GURPS version and have long thought about a d20 conversion. In fact I worked on a half step with a skill based magic system that in some ways immulated the In Nomine Magic System. I offered it to sjgames Pyramid Magazine as a d20 Modern mini game and have heard nothing. I am about at the point I am going to ask for it back and then see what I can do with it.

As far as PC as angels goes, check out Anger of Angels by SK Renyolds from Malhavok. Don't have it but have heard lots of good things about it.

I've never played In Nomine, but I have thought long and hard about a modern angels vs demons setting.

I would recommend something like Blood and Vigilance or Mutants & Masterminds. The whole d20 magic system is screwy, but if you model abilities as powers from those books, I think it works well.

I don't know what Grim Tales magic involves, but from what I thought it was a low magic/low fantasy style game...which means the power of angels and demons as players doesn't seem to mesh with the rules.

The In Nomine character I did play was very basic where game mechanics are concerned (the original French game, not the GURPS version). As far as supernatural powers did go, I got a number of Power Points, and about four supernatural powers with variable costs. As such, I see a d20 Modern (or d20 CoC) conversion like this: various races of angels, all of them have a small number of Power Points that increase with level, and a few spells that are cast spending power points (ala psionic system). Possibly: everytime a character gets a feat, he can learn a new spell instead. The number of power points should only allow to cast no more than half a dozen spells each day. Everything else would be d20 Modern (or d20 CoC), and no FX classes allowed...

Of course, converting to d20 means losing the feel of rolling a d666... :)

For those not in the know:

In IN you roll 3d6 (referred to d666) vs. a target number. The more successes, the better the result. If you roll 6, 6, 6, an infernal intervention occurs (beneficial to those playing demons, harmful to those playing angels). If you roll 1, 1, 1 (representing the Holy Trinity), a Godly intervention occurs (good for angels, bad for demons).
