Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, where we remember and mourn our trans siblings who we have lost over the past year. This includes 21 deaths by suicide and 27 deaths by act of violence (that were reported, as transgender individuals often have their identities stripped from them in death). That is 48 individuals who should and would still be alive today in a world less deliberately hostile to our lives and lived experiences. Please honor, respect, and support the transgender and gender non-conforming people in your life; family, friends, colleagues, passing acquaintances, etc. And stand up to and against those who treat our erasure as a cause for celebration.
