Shane blinks at the suddenness with which the conversation ended. The girl--is she a student here?--sounded on the verge of panic. He feels his own heartrate starting to pick up. He deliberately re-reads his notes: "912 EMERGENCY, Hadley - Break in, No answer". Right now that's all he knows. The Hadleys hadn't answered the door, the girl found that the house had been broken into and went inside, where she answered his call. No reason to panic yet. A break-in and no answer most likely means the Hadleys have left for some reason and someone robbed them while they were gone. He feels his pulse beginning to slow. Going inside probably isn't the smartest thing for a young co-ed to do, but he has to admire her courage. He picks up the phone. Rather than calling the Boston police right away, he dials the number for the Campus police. There is a good chance that someone on the force knows the Hadleys, and they are likely to be a bit more sympathetic to their friends' concern. "Hello, p-p-police? This is Dr. McDonald. I'm a bit worried about Dr. Had-Hadley. He hasn't been a-ar-arou... he hasn't been in lately, and when I trie...d calling his home, one of his students answered. She said she went t-t-to check on him, but found his home broken into, and no sign of him or his wife. C-c-could you send someone to check? I have the a-ad... the address."
