D&D 3E/3.5 Incantatrix 3.0 vs 3.5 prohibited school question

3.0 has a reference about acquiring the additional prohibited school, about how all spells of that prohibited school you retain from before assuming the PrC.

3.5 makes no mention of retaining those spells. Is it assumed, or do all spells you possessed of the school you lose no longer accessible?

you retain the prohibited spells in your spellbook or as spells known, you just can no longer cast them, or activate spell trigger/completion items of those spells.

Hm.

Perhaps I should cite the appropriate lines.

Magic of Faerun (3.0) said:
"Upon becoming an Incantatrix, the character chooses to focus her studies on protective and metamagic, forsaking other types of spells...the incantatrix must choose an additional prohibited school or schools... The Incantatrix can never again learn spells from that prohibited school or schools. She can still use the prohibited spells she knew proir to becoming an Incantatrix, including using items that are activated by spell completion or spell trigger."

The 3.5 version in Players Guide to Faerun lacks this line. This leads me to understand the spells from the prohibited school are in no way usable anymore.

Sorcerers are sooooooooooooo screwed... Of course, the DM can change that, but, as I see, they can never cast that spell again. There is no errata that I'm concerned too.

I would demand the sorcerer to change the spells as he gets to Incantatrix or let he cast, but not learn new spells from the prohibited school.

Strange. You'd figure that, knowing he can no longer cast those spells, he'd not choose to get them while leveling up.

A little forethought fixes this issue.

We on the forums assume that a player designs his or her character from level 1 to 20 beforehand, and we like to optimize. 3.x really lends itself to that being necessary, however I get the impression that it wasn't intended to be that way. Not every player starts level 1 and goes up the levels with a firm understanding as to what they'd be at level 5, or level 10, etc.
Tough having regrets.

RUMBLETiGER I suppose. I don't think I've ever made a character without thinking about what they'd be like at level 20.
When you make a Sorcerer, you really do need to think about if that level 1 or 2 spell will come into use at higher levels, or if you're just getting it to make the next few encounters easier.

I agree with you, that's how I operate. That's how any of my players work who've made it thru a campaign or two.
However, not everyone does this. And I've gotten the impression that PrC's are not supposed to neuter previous character choices.
I'm just curious as to what the developer's intent might have been to initially have the line, than leave it out.
Does anyone know if there is Players Guide to Faerun eratta? EDIT: ok, found eratta and it's not included.

Communication fail... My intend was to say that there is no errata for this part.

@Sekhmet , correct me if i'm wrong, but would your sorcerer be like a specialized wizard with NO benefits since the beginning? He must endure 6 levels limiting his spell schools. That certainly make the sorcerer worse, at least when comes to versatility point of view.

Optimization and planning take time. I'd seen people asking for the DM to make their character just because they were lazy; they just think about the concept and let the DM build the char.
