It really depends on the playing group. Some groups (like mine) tend to fall into the min/max side of the game and thus can't understand why a fighter would want to use any weapon but the great-axe or the great-sword. Personally, I would like to add in the old initiative modifiying effects of using certain weapons. It doesn't hugely change how the game plays out, but some people just don't like to go last.
