Inexpensive freely re-distributable art sources?

msd

First Post
I have come across a few collections mentioned on the boards, but was looking to see if people could make their own suggestions for inexpensive fantasy art that I can use and re-distribute in a PDF without issue...

Basically, I am looking for the kind of thing that you find at lpjdesign.com - 20 images for a couple of bucks.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

1 - The Larry Elmore Character Customization Studio (or something to that effect).

2 - There's a lot of other stuff at RPGNow.com - http://www.rpgnow.com/default.php?cPath=2_291&

3 - You might also try www.clipart.com

For hard copies that would need to be scanned, I might suggest:

http://www.arms-and-armor.com/index6.html

http://www.pillagedvillage.com/pvonline/Dov-24242-0.html
(this one is pretty good, I own it myself)

Look also at picking up collections of stuff that is in the public domain; I know Barnes & Noble often have collections of public domain artwork that have been compiled into books.

Great!

Thanks, that really helps! Any other suggestions from you small, independent publishers working on a limited budget regarding an inexpensive source of fantasy art?

Again, thanks guys in advance...

I heartily recommend an open call posting on these boards as opposed to clip art. Many artists that are just beginning their careers are willing to work cheap and will provide better quality and customization than clip art.

I have to agree wtih Mr. Edwards on this. Clip art is nice no-hassle material, but you can't exactly use it for flavor or set-item pieces. An Open Call here and on other boards can go a long way to finding amateur artists who are willing to work for byline.

Please refer to the other post about clip art. I (if there is a market for it) am willing to make collections of illustrations for free use for commericial or non commercial royalty free. I would hope my art is on par with those commissioned pieces you see out there since I am a professional artist. I see the need for the independent publishers with limited budgets and great ideas to be able to get royality free art at an affordable price...
