portable property ... a reference to charles dickens' masterpiece great expectations. portable property is a safer investment than banks which may suffer from bankruptcy, or even static property that may be forclosed upon, aged father.

As it is, I happen to be a huge fan of the D20 System & 3.5. I sold all my first edition material due to lack of use and haven't regretted it. I still hold onto my 2nd edition supply.

I really don't want to invest, and even if I did buy older stuff, it would not go unused. I'm picky about the older material that I buy, because it needs to be specific for what I am lacking in my homebrew (conversion purposes).

All I want in the way of reccomendations are alternate products that may have been received better.

Hmmmm.... I can picture the scene at 'Christies, London' now.... "This ladies and Gents is a First edition Dungeon's & Dragon's Player's handbook, signed by roleplaying games guru, Gary Gygax, all in pritine condition as you can see...Shall we start the bidding at say $1,000,000?"

Somewhat, if someone is a collector anyway. I'm not a collector, personally, but I have a number of friends who have extensive collections of early D&D products and memorabilia that are worth a good deal, aside from being something of which they are quite proud. Of course, the value of something like a first edition boxed set of D&D booklets can only be realized when sold but there is a site where such things can be gaged to a certain degree -

Well, first editions of the most recent ruleset are not likely to be an investment of great value and investments in collectibles of any kind aren't meant for use, obviously, as that would decrease their value. :)

As to what you might purchase for use in your current game, I posted some of what I think are good 3.x books here -

They might be ones you already have. :)

Considering what is required of an artist to realize such a jump in value . . .
