I have to say, at this point, that 'eating babies' is undoubtedly a very disgusting image for someone to be putting out for the rest of us to look at. And I'm glad it's been dealt with. But someone commented that the CoC is a grey area, (I think) implying that that's a bad thing. I disagree (hell, look at my sig). Grey means room for adaptation to the situation. It's just trying to outline a general moral stance. If you have to wait for the rules to change before you can deal with some specific immoral thing - or even have to have a seperate rule for each possible immoral thing - you are ineffective as a moderator and protector of the people. You see, hard and fast rules never work - there's already been a good demostration of this on this thread. It was suggested that no kids get killed because it was never necessary, and a situation was found where it would indeed be necessary. In my experience, it's something we humans do a lot - make rules, and then stick to them, so that thought is no longer required. Obviously, some rules are a good idea, and without doubt, having the rule that killing children is a CoC violation would help prevent misconduct with respect to that sort of behaviour. But it would also hinder some moments of good gaming. Likely, it would help more than hinder, and I'm not in any way trying to advocate killing children - the idea is somewhat reprehensible to me - just trying to point out that hard and fast rules usually don't work. (There isn't even a hard and fast rule to say that hard and fast rules don't work... ) I hope you see my point. What's actually needed is just a general level of maturity and decency. If certain individuals won't display these traits, others around them must, and tell them that their behaviour is unacceptable. Far more than WizO's telling people off and issuing bans or warns, peer pressure will stop someone doing something. After all, what do we come here for? To RP, to interact with one another. If nothing else, when everyone tells you not to do something, you'll leave, even if you don't stop doing it. Or you'll modify your behaviour to fit the norms of the group. Not to rant too much, or anything... nor to go on big tangents... But really, we just need to impose morals on these people. Let them know just what we dislike, and why. Though, it's wiser to remain emotionless and disengaged about how you tell them. If you just rant at them angrily, like just shouting at that person on the phone who's totally unhelpful, they'll close up and not listen. So reason with them - there's pleanty of reasons why eating babies is not only grotesque, but also immoral and immature. Tell them calmly what those reasons are, and trust that a few others will do the same, and that they might then get the idea. Of course, this isn't a replacement for a warn. They should get that too. So tell a mod. My thoughts. ~Jea's player, who feels strongly about this one.
