Innocuous Magic Items

A quill that will write what you dictate to it.

Self cleaning pots and pans.

Glass of colored sand that rearranges itself every time someone looks at it.

Book of fairy tales that will open automatically to the place you left off at.

Belt that loosens a bit when you eat a big meal.

Coin that is marked on one side with a cornucopia and on the other a sprig of an unknown herb. When you drop in it food it adds the flavor of one spice of your choice to the dish. Also cleans itself after being used.

A shell that always sounds like the ocean when you lift it to your ear.

Sleeping Bag of Perfect Comfort - always get a good nights rest no matter where you put it down.

I have given this exact magic item at least twice in the last fifteen years, and my wife requested one for one of her character just last year. :)

Love the idea, use it often-

A hoop that cleans what passes through it (big enough for a person).

A small brass dragon that moves very slowly, can be used to hold things (no more then a pound or so of weight).

A comb that styles and cleans any hair its run through

A small knife that cleans any hide that it skins (personally, I like this one as a stone scrapping blade).

The handle of a cane. It acts entirely as if there is a solid three foot cane extending out from it, but nothing else responds to the "phantom cane". Formerly used by a blind man.

Are actual WoTC magic items banned from this thread? What about the Everfull Mug (fills with cheap beer on command) or the Stove of Ever-Lasting Flame?

These are items I've given out over the years.

Salting Spoon
It salts anything you stir with it.
A more advanced version could add other spices.

Slippers of Comfort
Keep your feet comfortably warm or cool, depending on ambient temperature. Also prevents moisture from minor spills and such (up to going out in the dewed grass to get the paper).

Frosty Mugs
A set of mugs that keeps whatever liquid is in them cool.

Everfilling Pitcher
A silver pitcher that will produce one pitcher-full of a liquid each day. What is produced is whatever you last kept in it for 24 hours. (The party used this to create a pitcher of wine from their homeland every day as a reminder of home.) (Liquid must be non-magical and must be something you can drink.)

Turtle Shell Comb
A decorative comb that you would leave in your hair. It keeps your hair from getting dirty and keeps your hairstyle from getting mussed, even by high winds.

Everburning Charcoal Brazier
A small charcoal brazier (about the size of a habatchi) which will heat anything set on it. It's perfect for shipboard because it won't start a fire if it turns over because it cannot spill. (Though it could start a fire if something fell on it and eventually burst into flame.)

Folding Desk
A writing desk that folds up into a box the size of a book. It will hold paper, ink, quill, and the usual stuff a writing desk would.

Amulet of Virility
(I'll let you figure this one out.)

Leomond''s Secret Wardrobe
A wardrobe you can call up several times a day. You can store multiple outfits in it. I had a bard who made extensive use of this for changing clothes.

Water Barrel of Holding
Holds 900 gallons of water or other liquid, but only weighs 300 pounds. The water is magically pushed upward so that the barrel appears about as full as the extra-dimensional space.

Chest of Floating
A wooden seaman's chest that won't sink. It's also waterproof.

Storm Cloak
A large cloak with hood that keeps out almost any weather.

These are a couple I haven't used yet:

Auto-Cleaning Pet Door
For the familiar who likes to wander. When the animal comes back into the tower through the little flap, all dirt, mud, bits of plant, and whatever else is stuck in the pet's fur is cleaned off and left outside. Some versions also remove fleas and ticks.

Self-Cleaning Clothes
You just shake them out and they're clean. Great feature for expensive clothing.

Pot of Cooking
When the command word is spoken, the pot heats up like it's on a flame. (There are three temperature settings.) When it's turned off, the pots returns to room temperature. Only the inside of the pot is heated; the outside only gets a little warm.

Gloves of Inspection
White gloves used for military inspection. (Looking for dirt or dust.) They clean themselves automatically with a snap of the fingers so you can go inspect the next bunk.

Turncoat flag: A banner that appears to match the colors of the nation of whoever sees it.

Lightstep shoes: Shoes that leave no footprints.

Polar Rhoyd's Amazing Snapshooter: A box which imprints an image on a sheet of parchment fed through. The colors become distorted with time.

Idea lamp: A glass ball which creates standard illumination for a lantern when a nearby sentient creature actively thinks.

Elemental tenderizer: This bottle of earth and fire elementites, when poured on a slab of meat march around the meat until it is perfectly tenderized and cooked. They then return to the bottle.

Grimble's Gag Stool: This stool has three functions which can be programmed by the owner.
Hole: This setting causes the center of the stool to dematerialize. A DC 13 will save can be used to disbelieve the illusion of the seat still remaining.
Fart: This setting causes a terrible smell and a sound of rushing wind to occur whenever someone sits on the stool.
Move: This setting causes the stool to move away as someone sits down. A DC 13 reflex save can be used to avoid falling.

Coin of Sustenance: this copper coin, when held under the tongue for 15 minutes can take the place of a single meal for the purpose of nourishment.

Coin of Speech: This golden coin, when held against the throat allows the user to be understood in the native language of all who hear him. It does not confer the ability to understand the language of others.

Ransom Coin: This golden coin was created to subvert the will of some kidnappers who demanded the kidnapped's weight in gold. The coin adjust it's weight so that it appears to weigh as much as anything it is balanced against. Needless to say, the kidnappers were not pleased, and the incident ended in tragedy.

Personally, I have always real-life wished for an amulet that worked like a weaker cube of force -- something that keeps out the rain and bugs form a certain radius.
