Innovative horror novel recommendations

Blood-Meridian... Totally gripping, totally terrifying.

Totally. Manshoon, Iuz, Orcus... pikers. Judge Holden is the real thing and an utter fiend.

I've been thinking about getting World War Z. I probably will in the near future.

But I am again going to pitch House of Leaves . Man, don't go in the closet. It is not worth it. For that matter, don't sort through the papers of your strange, dead and blind neighbor. That is even more not worth it.

The Keep was actually the first of a series. The Adversary Cycle, I think it's called. Most of them are out of print, I think, at least in paperback, but he's also got a related series, Repairman Jack. He was in one of the novles in the cycle (The Tomb), but got his own series because he was something of a popular character. He might not appeal to all people though, he's basically a vigilante. And indeed, most of his stuff is somewhat political (libertarian). Not overly so, but might offend some people

Now that you mention it, I think I have the tomb but never did get to reading it. I think I got it because I've heard about the Repairman Jack books and always meant to read them, too.. :)

I find the political aspects of his LaNague chronicles almost as entertaining as the Healer's bits, so I suppose Wilson's libertarian views don't offend me (although I admit I only read the non-Healer parts about half as often as I re-read the Healer parts).

I really like just about anything by David Wellington but his 'Monster' series and '13 Bullets' were all stand outs.

'World War Z' by Max Brooks is also a must find.

Now THERE's a recommendation! This one is going on my list of books to find.

Thanks!

if you don't mind audio books...I've been enjoying
http://pseudopod.org/

basically short story horror....I've heard several RPG authors' stories aired on the site. I find them comforting before and after work on the bus.

Horror more comfortable than work...just shows you what smiling all day can do to a person.

I absolutely must second this recommendation.

Also, they're all available on his website for free.
