As to the topic at hand. Well done with the dragons. As the above quote implies the party was just asking for it. Now maybe they'll up the level of their strategies which, from the way you ran this encounter, should prove to be a truly memorable battle.

I think your players are for a rude awakening when dragon Blindsight cuts right through their Improved Invisibility.

Good scent or other senses is thematically reasonable for dragons. It really should be cost a feat, but with the abilities of three non-cookie cutter dragons at their disposal, they are individuals after all, the likelihood that one of them had a means of detecting intruders is very high. The Track feat could also have worked.

These guys don't seem very sharp for 16th level characters. But at least they have the wits to retreat and reconsider their tactics.
