Insensate -- Epic Spell (need help)

Hand of Vecna

First Post
I’m working on developing an epic Spell, Insensate -- it robs a target of their senses of hearing, sight, smell, taste, and touch.

A small but important question arises -- the Afflict seed says that, if you raise the DC by +2 (from 14 to 16), you can afflict one of the target’s senses. If crafting a spell that would affect 5 of a target’s senses, would I simply add +10 (for a 'base' DC of 24), or would I essentially need to apply the entire seed five times (for a 'base' DC of 80)?

According to the rules as presented in the ELH I'd say, it would be the second way - base DC80. Confer the Hellball example: Different applications of the same seed need the seed over and over again.

However I wouldn't rule it thus. Robbing a target of all senses is certainly powerful and versatile, but 80 is over the top. Make it the +10 adjustment for five senses and add some ad-hoc thingy. An appropriate comparison in power would be a save-or-die spell - it should be about as difficult to cast, but not much more.

Perhaps +2 for the first sense, +4 for the second, +8 for the third, +16 for the fourth, and +32 for the 5th, for a total of +62.

If that's still too high for you, then +2, +4, +6, +8, +10 would give a total of +30.
