Intelligent Thunderstone randomizer

Asmor

First Post
As I was updating Thundermaster, my intelligent Thunderstone randomizer, with the new expansion Doomgate Legion, it occurred to me that I hadn't posted about the program here.

So now I've remedied that. :)

Thundermaster is intelligent in that it guarantees you'll have all the tools you need to succeed--or to fail! Never again will you be stuck with games made annoying by impossible-to-beat monsters (e.g. ones which require strength to defeat, but no strong heroes available) nor will you laugh at monsters with drawbacks that are completely irrelevant (e.g. if there are monsters that destroy fighters, then there will be at least one fighter in your setup).

Thundermaster works in your browser and is specifically designed to work well on computers and smart phones. Heck, it even runs on my e-book reader (Kindle 3)!

I have seen this over at BGG already. Very neat! :D

One thing I was wondering... does it also have an "original" setting, i.e. the standard way to randomize cards (incl. all the special randomizers like "Dungeon Feature" or "Pick Two")?

Is that what the "maybe" setting does?

No, it does not, and I do not intend to add such a setting, for a couple of reasons.

First, I just don't find it very compelling that sometimes you'll get a feature and sometimes you won't. If I want to use traps, I'll use traps, and if I don't I won't.

Second, I don't even think it's a particularly good idea to try and replicate the original randomization process, which was designed with the constraints of cardboard in mind. Hell, the whole program is predicated on the idea that it's not uncommon for a by-the-book random setup to result in a long, drawn-out game.

The 'maybe' setting just means that there's a 50/50 chance you'll get (exactly one of) the selected feature. I may even remove this at some point and replace with a numerical dropdown, once more variety is available.

I am open to adding features to the program, and while I certainly understand the desire of some to replicate some or all of the randomization options of the original game, I'm not really willing to write the code for it if the only justification is 'that's how it is in the book.'

Reading this, I'm not sure if I'm coming off as sounding offended or snarky, and if I am then I apologize for that. Just trying to explain my thinking and methodology.

I see. And no, your post is absolutely fine. :)

I was just thinking that it would be pretty useful to have such a feature, not primarily to actually use it, but moreso to play around with it, to see what combinations are coming up. Just a curiosity kind of thing, so to say.
