Interbreading Dragons

Now here's an idea.

What would happen if you take two dragons of different types and breed them together (like black and red) to get an new species of dragon (black and red dragon). Would this work? How would this work? What would be the abilities/stats/features of the new dragon?

I hope I don't get BADD on my case for this...

Actually, this was mentioned in the Draconomacon.

I say that you either tone up a black dragon, or tone down the red. Roll a dice, to see which one was the dominant gened parent, and tool it mainly after that one.

It could look purple, or black with a red tinge, red with a dusky tinge. The breathweapon would likely be a combination of fire and acid (Acid on fire, mostlike).

But, roll to see which it takes after, and what abilities it gets. Give it a touch of the other parent, like a raised BAB, or somesuch, but don't give it the best of both worlds.

I think that the powerful magical genetics that allow dragons to mate with anything would cancel each other out in different type dragons. Or at least that's the way it would be if it ever came up in my world

I'd probably apply the half-dragon template for the weaker type of dragon.

doom daisy ..............i dont recall the number but in dragon magazine there were a number of dragon cross breeds presented in the bestiary..........red and blue ..actually did make purple.....and a quite nasty dragon at that ......actually my favorite one ever.....

as mentioned above, this was discussed in the 2e draconomicon. I have always liked the idea of a purple dragon that breaths napalm.

If you can tell me which dragon magazine that was I would be very appreciateive. And also what is the draconian (whatever thing)? Who made it and where could I find it?

I had the idea that the result would have some sort of intertwined color combination going on. Like black with red stripes but more like how some of the exotic snakes look like.

The draconomicon was published as a FR supplement in 2e by TSR. One of my friends had a copy, I read over it. You can get a copy in PDF format from the WOTC site for about $5.00.

I couldn't tell you about the dragon magazine.
