Kaodi, I've just set you up! I've taken the liberty of placing you within the map already, so you guys may meet in a few posts. I assume the Knight would be pressed to find refuge in the surface, maybe even using his skills to prove himself, build contacts and so on.... Alessia would be an ideal place, since the ties between the elfic peoples were never truly broken in this world.

On a side note, what has you character been up to on the surface?

That... is a good question. I had figured that Batknight would have come to the surface when he was fairly young, and he is probably within a few decades of middle age now. He is not much of a rider, so like his inspiration he probably mostly sticks to cities, somewhere large but a bit lawless. Maybe he had a teacher on the surface somewhere along the way, but due to his need for secrecy he has probably always been a bit more of a freelance and a mercenary rather than an enlisted soldier. He probably engages in a fair bit of vigilantism, using his deeper darkness ability to get away (if necessary) rather than pure stealthiness, and he has gained the respect if not the cooperation of some local law enforcement. However, things do not always go smoothly and sometimes he has to make himself scarce. Like right now, maybe he sort of had to take some time away, which he will claim is his "working vacation" . I would imagine him having old friends and foes who are real "characters" . Unlike with that other guy though, Batknight does spend a fair amount of his time out in the open though and can be approached by common folk with their problems if they cross paths with him. There is also no "dichotomy" between Batknight and his true self. He hides the identity he was born with, but that is still who he really is. I have an equally dorky real name in mind, but I was thinking of keeping it to myself. I do not really have any specific past enemies or deeds in mind, though I can work on that if you would like. I imagine he has a certain amount of renown as a warrior though, and has had good showings in the odd tournament melee here and there.

Edit: Batknight has probably spent at least some time forging armour and weapons other than his own, though perhaps most of those skills were developed when he was young and rarely get used commercially anymore.

Yes. His armour completely covers his body, even his eyes are obscured. Underneath that he wears clothes that cover his entire body, including a facemask. There are rumours he wears a second set of clothes under those clothes, just to be sure, :D .

Ok, as a hook, may I make na assumption? Being that he is knowledgeable on all things from the Underworld, just as if he fought the Drow plenty throughout his years.

I'm going for something similar to what Zyara has going on. A famous warrior (monk in her case) with an inclination to solve certain types of problems. Alice Chalk does pretty much the same.

From Moss, I'm getting the secret guardian vibe so far, given his enormous stealth bonus; Aranel... I'll save that for later, hehehe. Daxio, I think, would be the PR, the guy with the contacts, given his social nature. Am I getting this right? Arduniel would go for a nice redeeeming motiv behind the group.

Oh, speaking of which, MetaVoid, can you elaborate a bit more on Arduniel's past and motivations, please? :D

:)

He, at some point after his town was "killed", joined band of elven disgruntled young and fell ever deeper into hedonism and depravity - hatred for humans - and all things not elven fueled by his recent loss and bad company. They pillaged, raided and killed for years. He never stopped to think about it, in his mind the carnage justified by what was done to his people.

Luckily for surrounding humans there were also orcs and goblins to raid and kill and even in hatred, elves were slow to move, having some pleasure in hunting of those who escaped.

He was finally snapped out of it in one raid where he witnessed (and stopped) killing of a woman with the child. While he saw the same thing done before, both of elven women and children during the raid that triggered the hatred and later done by his peers and even him (area spells are not really selective) - this one was final straw. He stopped the killing and ran out with the woman as his companions turned against him.

The feeling would pass and he probably could get back to them...but he couldn't. Not anymore. Simmering anger that would freely flare at the sight of human was still there and he didn't take care of the woman as he could. He never even learned her name. Arduniel left her and the child in the vicinity of human settlement, marked both of them with arcane mark and left her to live or die with humans.

By now, she is probably dead of old age and the child grown person.

He returned to the town, returned to his studies and advanced...but for the changed focus, from destruction to creation - he still contended with hurt wherever he saw scars from the raid. He tried exposure tactics and visited human monasteries where self-awareness was cultivated, but he still hated too much. He couldn't integrate fully with normal elven society, not after what he did and how he felt. Finally, he isolated himself with his book and spent a decade getting into the secret of runes and magic of life and death. He studied, built, learned with elven patience. And finally, one day, his metallic creation, sin rune of wrath moved, imbued with his own wrath. He felt drained, but finally at peace with himself.

He moved freely now, among elves, humans even dwarves - learning their ways, history and cultures. He was trying for peaceful solutions where possible. But he was also powerful arcanist, destruction incarnate when aroused. He lives in another shattered city, the one they are now, helping elves rebuild, more often themselves than the city itself.

Would it be reasonable for a character with a ring of sustenance to just sleep/rest four or more hours per night in order to avoid the fatigue that usually comes with sleeping in armour?

My guess would be no. You're not fatigued because of hte armor per se, but because you have problems sleeping due to weight and lack of comfort. Adding more hours wouldn't help with that, just like normal person wouldn't be recovered by sleeping 12 or 16 hours in the armor without the ring. That's why there are feats and traits that help with that...but of course, DM has the last word.

I'm with @MetaVoid. The character wouldn't have enough of a repairing sleep, even if he multiplied the hours he stayed out.

Again, sorry for the absence, guys. I had to go through a few heart and head exams on account of some odd pains. To make matters worse, the entire transportation system is once more on strike, and we have no fuel to move around. Public transportation system's gone as well. Going around the hospitals took most of my non-working hours. I'll update everything today, though!
