You know, I'm a little jealous now. We used to think that we were pretty special with that "Dark Dungeons" thing, but now we found out that we are just a speck in his multi-media empire.

Actually d00d, hatred and pH3ar are effectively the same thing. Or rather, hatred is a manifestation of fear.

And so is derision.

Jack Chick believes wholeheartedly in what he does and he's experienced some things that would make even you and me reluctant to have anything to do with the occult or fictitious representations thereof.

He doesn't deserve the sort of scorn that parts of the happy little gaming community heap upon him at every opportunity.

Well, Snoweel, while I see what you're saying, you also have to admit that the fact LA Magazine had its reporter pursue the guy means that a lot of people still are smarting over his various diatribes. It's not exactly like he stopped publishing them; they're alive and well in print and on the internet. Keep in mind that the article never mentions D&D at all, and presumably D&D wasn't even a blip on the reporter's radar. The implication is this - Chick's treatises are still fresh to a lot of folk that might not even know D&D exists. If a group as large as the Catholic Church (for example) still feels as if its toes have been freshly trod upon, it's understandable if a group as small and relatively insular as gamers feels a tad defensive.

Should we drop the issue and let the matter fade into obscurity? Hell yeah. But, come on, we had rolling flame wars that lasted for months over mercurial greatswords here in the gaming community, fer cryin' out loud - ya can't expect somethin' like this to be put down too easily or quickly

Anyway, it was a fascinating article. I think the author of it might have been reaching with his final conclusions/speculations on Chick's psychological and spiritual make-up, but overall an interesting read.

Ole' Chick is still going. A few months ago, while walking the streets of scenic Budapest, I got handed one of his pamphlets (no mistake - the LORD pointing the sinner towards hell, the book of life and the story itself is pure Chick). I feel special.

I also think his comics are fun to read - I certainly don't agree with them, but contrary to what everyone else is saying, he isn't a bad cartoonist. In fact, he is pretty good at satire - looking at his exagerated antagonsits, the Board Meeting in Hell or Mrs. Frost, you can see that he has a sense of humor.
