Into the Dragon's Maw (Adventure)

Ignis

[section]His concentration interrupted momentarily by a glint from the anvil, Ignis, paying heed to the others vocalized thoughts, realizes no one is interested in his spell and decides to forgo the activity as a futile exercise.

'It is apparent my assessment was inadequate,' he thinks to the rest, his frustration not translating via thought. At Pells comment he replies, 'Verily, I retain the requisites to determine arcane auras but indubitably the temporal allotment for that opportunity may have been wasted by my initial ritual attempt.'
Ignis further communicates his thoughts on the matter. A ballooning pattern of ideas and conclusions on how to proceed with the items found in the bonepile flood the others minds, most of which does not translate well, the end result of which is an image appearing of all the items in a pile and him checking them over.

'Perhaps, an inspection of this forging apparatus,' a picture of the anvil appears in the others minds, 'it has beseeched my curiosity.' With that the genasi closes his spellbook and stows it into his bag, using his staff to prop himself up, he carefully moves toward the anvil, staying at a safe distance while attempting to make out any markings on the device[/section]

Lakeover stands, watching the exploration of the bones. He is ashamed at how greatly he misjudged the crossing of the bridge, and the time his plan cost the group. He still hears the sound of the flowing river, which he thought he could cross to advantage using his spells.

He stand, wary for any surprise attack, but unwilling to volunteer to help in this search because he doesn't want to be so obviously wrong again.

Radaceus: As you approach the anvil, a mist begins to appear in front of it. Before your eyes, the mist solidifies into the shape of a shimmering transparent dwarf who forlornly gazes on your band with hollow eyes. His face is wrinkled, behind a proud beard and a crooked nose, although the right half of his face is horribly disfigured as if from acid. Tattered bits of flesh dangle over bare bone and an exposed eye socket. Adorned in a leather jerkin, his left arm is missing at the elbow, replaced with an ornate smithy’s hammer.

You rapidly take in the details of his appearance and notice that his helm bears a crest of two hammers crossed before a flame. You encountered that symbol in your studies. It’s is the seal of the Ironshaper clan. You recall that the clan was said to be great craftsmen before a dragon attacked them and nearly wiped them out.

The dwarven apparition looks at you with red sparks angrily flashing in his eye sockets. His echoing voice reminds you of crushing gravel as he barks at you, “Who are you? Why have you come?”

Cade: You are able to recover all the items you saw with no trouble. The yellow stone looks to be a sizeable topaz. The belt buckle seems to be solid silver. More interesting is the arrow.

The arrow has a thick brown shaft with blue and green feathers. Its shaft splits into three separate arrowheads, each tipped with a black metal head. As you turn it over in your hand, you recognize that there is something exceptional about the arrow, but without further study you can’t make out what the enchantment might be.
[sblock=OOC]If you would like to make any skill checks concerning the bone pile, feel free[/sblock]

Pell: The shield is polished to a mirror shine and the curve is so slight that as you look into it, your reflection is almost perfectly maintained. You touch it as you inspect it and notice that your fingerprint doesn’t appear. Curious, you grab some dirt from the bottom of your boots and try to smudge it on the shield only to find it sliding directly off. You are not sure of the depth of the enchantment, but you are confident that the shield is magical.

Everyone: You see and hear the dwarven ghost as well.

[sblock=Magical Items]For magical items that you find, as per the DMG, you will be able to know that they are magical just by handling them. Identifying the magical effects takes either a short (or long) rest or the identify spell[/sblock]

Ignis

[section] The studied genasi quickly absorbs the details, he imparts the imagery from his lore of Clan Ironshaper being attacked by a Dragon to the rest of the group; Plants his staff, lowers to one knee and bows his head, "Hail, Master Ironshaper, I am denominated as Ignis, my fellows subsequently are specified Cade, Lakeover, Pell, and Faera," he indicates the group with a motion of his staff, raising his head to make eye contact with the apparition ,"We visit this domain upon rumours your clan may need assistance, and with your blessing that we may offer ourselves to liberate your great ancestral home of the evil wyrm that has occupied it."

I believe Faera is the only one with a decent Persuasion check, not to sure how a dwarf would react to a drow...so here goes nothing :)
let's hope Ignis' politics are all in order...

The apparation spit at the genasi and spoke, “Keep your lies to yourself, flame hair! My people have suffered enough without you coming to loot our memories. Even now, leagues away from our ancestral home, filth come to rob our anvil for ourselves. As if the indignities of that dragon were not enough. Leave this place! Leave this anvil in peace until my people return in strength to regain it.”

[section]Pell held out the shield for Cade's inspection. "Woah! It won't get dirt--GAH!" The young half-orc dropped the shield in surprise when the ghost started talking. His excitement over the shield forgotten, Pell stumbled backward, away from the dwarf spectre. His mind began flitting through the myriad defensive bits of magic at his disposal. Sleep? No, that won't work on a ghost. Or will it? Invisibility? Maybe. Spider climb? For a quick escape across the walls, maybe. Blur. Yes, blur might help. For now, Pell waited to see whether the ghost had taken ill to his looting the bone pile. Pell eyed the shield and edged further away from it. [/section]

MGySgt Lakeover sees the ghost and approaches. He stands in the middle of his companions, ready to react if it initiates an attack. He smiles, which admittedly looks something like a sneer on his face, but suspects the dwarf, ghost or no, would be unable to read his facial ticks accurately.

At any sign of hostility, Lakeover will attempt to turn the ghost.

[[readied action, I guess; Lakeover has no interest in the shield, content with the one he carries, which sports the symbol of magic proudly on it.]]

Phantasmal spittle flies from the shade's mouth as the elven cleric comes into view, “Ach! A servant of the gods are ye? Where was your worthless god when Chlorothra filled our tunnels with her toxic gas? Where was your god when our women and children died in agony as their lungs boiled inside their chests? Now you come all false smiles to steal the final glory of the Ironshaper clan for yourselves. It wasn't enough that your gods abandoned me and my people now they send their servants to rob the heritage of my clan too? Away with all of ye! While I may not have been able to stop that foul beast from stealing our honor for her hoard, I can certainly stand against a band of worthless thieves who seek our anvil for their own glory! One dishonor is enough I say! The anvil remains until the Ironshaper clan reclaims it! Away with the lot of ye!”

Pell shifted toward his nearest companion. His eyes glued to the dwarf phantasm, Pell leaned over a hair and whispered, "Who's the Ironshaper clan, and what d'you s' pose is their 'final glory?'"
