Introduction to Eberron?

Jürgen Hubert

First Post
Yesterday, I ran my first ever online game - an adventure using the GURPS system and the city of Sharn in Eberron as a setting (you can see the chat log of the session here).

Now quite a few people have expressed interest in such a game. More than I can probably accomodate in fact, though I have some ideas for a campaign with multiple GMs and a common roster of player characters (all the PCs should be part of the Deathsgate Guild in Sharn, and as long as the adventures are reasonably short and set in or near Sharn, it should be easy to justify different party compositions for each adventure...).

However, some of the players are familiar with GURPS, but not with the Eberron setting. So I was wondering if anyone here knows of a good introduction to Eberron in general and Sharn in particular which is available online...

Essential Eberron has an encyclopedia that has a lot of useful information. The Eberron forums has some things buried there.

I know some people have put together some documents that do this, but they usually linked to them in threads, and I can't find any of them right now.

Yeah, the Eberron forums have good stuff, but you need to ignore* Edymion and his Eberron brownshirts.

*By ignore, I mean take what he says with a grain of salt. He and his posse have a very specific vision of Eberron, and loudly denounce all others. It's a severe p.i.t.a.

Which forums? Those at the WotC forums?
Yes. IMO, they've gone downhill lately. Mostly because Keith has almost vanished from the forums due to deadline (all the Ask Keith threads are full of gems, for one). However, there are still interesting bits there.

Of course, the direct on point thread would be the FAQ for Eberron Newbies thread.

The trouble is that, it's like asking "can you give me a good introduction to Earth?" It's such a broad place that it's hard to condense into an easy-to-swallow write-up.

The best condensed introduction to Eberron I've seen was one of the appendices to the first Eberron-set novel, "City of Towers" by Keith Baker. It's not available online, but it is worth tracking down.

I have that one. Unfortunately, since it isn't online, I can't really show it to my players - since they live all over the world...

Well, I've tried to contribute a bit...
