Quite a bit more than I can recall to relate, I fear!
The "Evil Sherriff"'s one-armed deputy found the identity of the dead girl pulled from the pond where the ES's wife's body was, then the deputy tracked down her biological parents. Both he and they wondered why the coroner found salt water in her lungs, when she supposedly drowned in a pool... This causes the ES problems, as it messes with his plans for his wife (Muriel?). He gets angry, and asks his one-armed deputy how many departments were interested in hiring him when he came back from the war, and the deputy says none. The ES asks why he thinks that he hired him, and then tells him that it was because he was sure that he'd have his loyalty... The deputy says that he has it, but that he owes loyalty to someone else, first: God! Then the ES tells him to meet him at such-and-such pool, where he thinks toxic waste is being dumped... and you know that he is setting up the deputy to be killed!
Sure enough, while investigating the pool, he gets pulled in by one of the "lights in the water", and we finally get to see one of the things glomming onto him. Latter, he shows back up at the ES's house, wrapped in... something, and wearing only swim trunks, talking about the miracle, because now he has his arm back!
Knowing that this will cause a lot of questions to be asked, the ES talks to the priest (who runs the Survivors' Support Group), trying to get him to convince the no-longer-one-armed deputy that his "miracle" needs to be sacrificed. He then tells the deputy that they are going out to some (deserted) shack where some criminals are, and gives him a talking to, telling him that God is testing his faith, blah, blah, blah, while pulling a chainsaw out of the trunk. Then the stupid putz of a deputy takes it into the shack, closes the door, starts it up, and screams, apparently removing his newly-grown arm!
Interspersed throughout this is the tale of Dave, Conspiracy-buff Extraordinaire. He is recording his latest blog, lying in bed, when he falls asleep with the tape recorder in his hand. While he sleeps, someone comes in and puts a bag over his head, and kidnaps him. When his brother (-in-law?), the Game Warden, comes in, Dave is gone, but he picks up the tape recorder (now with dead batteries), and gets some new batteries to put in it. He then plays the tape, and hears Dave being abducted, so he goes in search of him!
At the internet cafe where Dave does his blog, the guy who runs it tells him about "Connie", the woman who we saw asking Dave questions in an earlier episode, and how she was trying to get Dave to go off with her to some abandonned Air Force base, so the GW goes over there...
Meanwhile, Dave wakes up, tied to a chair, and gets interrogated and "tested" by a black man, who we know nothing about. One of the "tests" is dunking Dave's head in a tank of water, to see if he can breathe it, or drowns! Anyway, poor Dave can't breathe water, so he "passes". He then meets the guy, who gives him a little information (and a false name, which he admits isn't his real one), and "Connie" (which isn't her real name, either)! When the black man pulls out a gun to make Dave listen, his brother, the GW, shows up, with the shotgun, and gets the drop on him. Then "Connie" gets the drop on HIM!
Along the way, we learn a little about the backgrounds of these two, and why they're such "hard-liners", and that they're afraid of someone, and also that, in previous cases, going back at least ten years, that the "infectees" committed suicide, often taking their kids with them...
At this point, Dave (who is tied to a chair, again) complains that he has to urinate, so "Connie" takes him outside. While he does that, they talk, and someone shoots Connie! They drag her inside, while the "tough guy" black man goes out to look for the shooter, giving Dave a chance to look at what "Connie" was working on; a reconstruction of the face on the skull of the oldest infectee... and, of course, it is the face of the evil sherriff!
At the end of the episode, it is reported to the GW that he has disappeared, and taken the kids with him! This is alarming, given what the two new folks have told the brothers, who now fear for the kids' safety!
Next week: More with the One-armed-again deputy, saying "God gave me this gift, and I threw it away!"
No doubt, I have left out other parts, besides just the names!...
