Invisibility and Animated Shields

Hi all,

Will the shield be invisible? I really can see both sides of the arguement. I'm curious if anyone is familiar with an official ruling from WotC. How would the DMs out there adjucate this situation?

Thanks for your help,

Bill

Nope, the shield will be visible. The invisibility spell reads clearly that only gear on the character becomes invisibile. An animated shield: "..floats within 2 feet of the wielder."

And yet the shield bonus from an Animated shield won't apply against touch attacks, for example. In many ways (including arcane failure, ACP, etc) the shield is treated exactly as if the character were holding it.

It's also an attended object, and within invisibility's 10 foot 'field' for carried objects.

I'm not sure one can dismiss the possibility that the spell would apply.
