Invisible Medusa and her Gaze Attack?

You give up too easily. You're supposed to exploit the loophole in the MM statement that a creature "is immune to gaze attacks of others of its kind unless otherwise noted." Since that only mentions others of its kind, presumably the medusa can affect itself with its own gaze attack :)
Certainly. That's how Perseus won. Or Theseus? Greek names....

It would be soooo boring if you couldn't kill these things with a mirror.

Ah, but what if it was an illusion of a mirror in a totally dark room?
bump

I'll bite. Assuming the creature had darkvision and could see the illusion of the mirror, it would still be unaffected by its own Gaze Attack because it wouldn't be seeing it's reflection, but an illusion of its reflection. And the Illusion doesn't have the Gaze Attack. That's my take on it. (That's why every adventurer should have a full-length dressing mirror in their bag of holding.)

PC 1: Hey, Bob, why do you polish your buckler like that every night?
PC 2: Ask me again when you're a lawn ornament.

Actually, that's incorrect. Perseus (Theseus is the guy who takes the minotaur) did not defeat Medusa by reflecting her gaze against her. He had a mirrored shield which allowed him to see her sleeping visage without looking at her directly, and he beheaded her with his sword.

See, that's why you need to watch Clash of the Titans, as a little refresher course, so to say. And it's a cool movie, too! :D

Yes, it is - even though it kills Greek mythology and takes its stuff :)

Yeah, I like the owl.

I always did think that was one of the most entertaining and best analogues to the animal companion/familiar that I've seen in a film.
