Ioun Stone question

Really? I'm not arguing with you, but could I have some evidence on that statement, because it would be cool if you could have multiple ioun stones.
Ioun stones have no listed restriction on multiple usage and they are not listed as taking up any body item slot. So I don't see why one would assume that there is any restriction by number on their usage.

Traditionally, you could have as many stones in use as you could acquire. The SRD is silent on the issue, one way or the other.

That's why I just say "Amulet of +2 Con Ioun Stone" and similar things. Same price, per the item creation rules, no need to watch for peeps with sticky fingers.

Although, the painted burned out Ioun Stone with a contingent Disintegrate ("if anyone but me touches this stone") might keep at least the first would-be thief at bay. And just to make it more tempting, use it as your continual light source. :p

It reminds me of Valence.

One of my players once made a character who went by that name. His stated goal was to collect enough Ioun Stones to make an electron shell. :D

They fly about the head, though, 1d3 ft out - so, with enough of them, theoretically, wouldn't you have essentially a cloud of ioun stones, orbiting your head only, unless you're under 3ft tall, in which case .. that could get real weird, real fast.

On a sidenote, as ioun stones aren't transparent, what would happen when you had several ioun stones circling within 3ft of your head at all times? The rules don't say - I guess it's assumed that you'll never have enough to make it an issue. What happens when you try and stick yuor ioun stone encased head through a tight space?

IMG which magic is sometime important to keep hidden, Ioun stones can be swallowed and the effect bestowed until they leave the body. The person knows when the stone is about to exit and so can be ready to 'rinse and repeat'.

Kinda pricey when chances are the contingency will wind up killing a raven or a housecat. ;)

I have wanted to make a swarm of Ioun stones that worked like a shield bonus.

I think a fair house rule is that after a certain number of Ioun stones in orbit, they cause distraction similar to a swarm, or obscure vision...

You are gross, sir. I don't allow the swallow rules. They have breathe and be flying free to activate, like little airborne scoops scooping up magic and channelling to the "wearer."

Yeah, internal usage of ioun stones is just... odd. And not for my game. But hey, I'm all for alternative adventuring lifestyles. :D

And as slotless items, multiple ioun stones can be used -- but duplicate ones don't stack with one another.
