Well...

Hmm, looking at the list I must say that Kas seems very enticing. I'll take him. If you could just provide me a little background on him/his forces/philosophies/etc...

Thanks!

Ok, Mr. Draco has claimed Kas and his legions.
Mr. Draco, I described Vecna up at the top of this thread.

Kas was Vecna's great lieutenant, his second in command (a real bad person.)
Kas ultimately betrayed Vecna, however, and destroyed him ... or so everyone thought.

However, Vecna conspired against the fate he saw for himself, and decided to leap forward through time prior to his death at the hands of Kas.
Since he is claimed, he has succeeded in coming forward through time into the present, with all his legions.
Unless he is contested, Vecna will become the one Greater God or Oerth, and his legions will descend on the world.

Since Vecna came forward, I am ruling Kas his now archenemy came forward after him.
Kas and his legions only have 1/5th the strength of the Vecna and his legions, but ...

It is possible that many might decide to ally with Kas against Vecna and his legions.
Whether they do, is up to them and up to you.

Read the part on Vecna near the top of this thread ...

Ok, I think I have an idea. I'd want neutral or chaotic side with mild suel-past. Which would be good?

I shall flip through my Greyhawk books and try to find one too, but question is which one?

I know this has been said before, but I've forgotten. What line of Greyhawk we are using? Old set, second edition or Living Greyhawk? All of them? Which history and what year? I don't know about Living Greyhawk much.

This is not that relevant, but I am kind of curious from your standpoint.

:)

You might choose the nation of Ratik and it's friends, the Frost, Snow, and Ice barbarians.
They are neutral, warlike (thus chaotic), and they are Suel.

This is the Greyhawk of 3rd Edition, only it is 40 years after the political map reached the arrangement shown in the most recent supplements.
During that 40 years, there has been peace, growing prosperity, and a respite from the madness of the Greyhawk mentality.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Living Greyhawk.
However, all of the events portrayed in the From the Ashes boxed set occurred, prior to the final war that created the political map as it stands today.

Please remember that there are several powers on the map that do not exist in official Greyhawk.
They are:

The Solistarim.
The Spirit Empire of Garnak and Istivar.
The Empire of Varnaith.
The Empire of the Yuan-Ti.

None of these are Suel.
The Solistarim are intensely evil, the Yuan-Ti mildly so, Garnak is a strange kind of neutral (they hobnob with the spirits of the dead, who are their advisors and mentors), and Varnaith is neutral with some good.

just checking here...

ok, from reading your description of kas, i gather that my forces are comprised of the same type of undead warriors/liches/whatnot as vecna's, except i only have 1/5 of vecna's number. Is this correct?

Secondly, hat is Kas himself like? (class/race/etc...) If i remember correctly, by the description in the DMG for artifacts, Kas was a vampire?

Lastly, from any books/stories/campaign settings/etc did Kas express any view on the other races/philosophies of Oerth? Or do i get to decide those on my own?

Oh, right I try this. :) Could you tell me something about their history and nature, more so of latest (I don't have Greyhawk wars or that boxed set after that one).

Well, and I like reading your describtions better than those in 'the books'. :)

Kas may indeed be a vampire ... I am not sure of that, though.
You may make him a living person if you so choose, Mr Draco.

The Legions of Kas are mostly living, actually.
They are Suel peoples from the Arcane Age, and they have the might of the Arcane Age behind them (that is, their mages and priests can cast higher than 9th level spells.)
When they enter the world, the legions of Vecna and Kas bring the Arcane Age back to Oerth, although unfortunately nobody in the modern world is probably going to have time to rediscover the ancient secrets before the legions of Vecna and Kas are upon them.

The Legions of Kas are totally fanatical to Kas.
They are also of a highly evil bent, and a greater number of them are berserkers, or mindless slaves of Kas.

Of course, Kas has his artifact, the Sword of Kas, and one heck of a score to settle with Vecna.

When Kas emerges into the present, he emerges at Tovag Baragu.
Unfortunately, this is right in the heart of the Spirit Empire of Garnak, which is a powerful Baklunish nation.

The Baklunish do not particularly care for other humans, and they do NOT like even the present day Suel, much less the ancient ones who destroyed their homeland with the Invoked Devastation.

And, of course, most are going to oppose the likes of Vecna.

In other words, Kas and his Legions will be coming into the present, into the face of an all out three way war.
Vecna verses Kas versus the Spirit Empire of Garnak.
This will happen within seconds of Kas's emergence (after all, Vecna has already arrived, and the fight has already begun.)

And, Kas has about one-third the strength of Vecna's host, in sheer numbers.
However, Vecna's host is more powerful in terms of the magic and fighting strength they can bring to bear.

To answer concerning Ratik:

It is a small nation of people on the eastern shores of Oerth, with a cold temperate climate and a hardy people to match.
They are a friendly people, the people of Ratik, who have long employed the art of diplomacy to keep the barbarians of the north from plundering their shores, and to keep the Great Kingdom of the south from annexing them.
Their land is well known for it's logging, mining, friendly ports, it's scouts, rangers, and doughty warriors, and it's generally friendly atmosphere.

Further north are the barbarians.
These are the descendents of the Suel who came into the Flanaess, then fled north and south from the Oeridians (who hated them as they had once been overlords and oppressors.)
Those that fled south created the Scarlet Brotherhood.
Those that fled north, became the Frost, Snow, and Ice Barbarians.

Their land is subarctic, and agriculture is limited to hay, oats, barley, and rye.
Terrifying monsters roam the boreal forests of their lands, or come down out of the massive mountain range that runs through the middle of the great peninsula (the Thillronian Peninsula) upon which they live.

The barbarians are friendly to Ratik, but otherwise they are the scourge of the seas, plundering the entire east coast of the Flanaess clear down to Dullstrand, and engaging in endless battles with the peoples of both the mainland and the pirates on the offshore isles (they stay clear of the elves of the Lendore Isles.)
When they are not raiding, they are trading (The Great Province of Northern Aerdi, in particular, has attempted open trade with them.)

The strongest of the barbarian peoples are the Snow Barbarians.
Their society is male dominated, but in general nearly all their people can fight; their land is such that fighting is tantamount to survival.

They are fierce enemies of the Hold of Stonefist, a flannae land northwest of them, full of cruel bloodthirsty people under the sway of Iuz, and they wish to destroy Stonefist if they can - but their lack of unity has proven to be a problem in this (Stonefist is highly organized.)

I need your help here, folks.

Since the old message boards are down, I am trying to inventory once more who has claimed what.

Here is what I have, out of memory and some records, so far:

Toril and Realmspace

Aloisius - The Church of Toril
The Balor - playing an unknown power (Balor, do you wish to speak for a particular power?)
Lord Talos - The Church of Shade
Phasmus - The Illithid of Toril
Reprisal - The United Commonwealth of Toril

Oerth and Greyspace

Alyx - Celene, the Lendore Isles, Varnaith (elven or elven dominated nations)
Kalanyr - The Drow of Oerth and their Giantish servants
Mr Draco - Kas and his Legions (evil Suel humans)
GnomeWorks - The Technomancy of the Lortmils (gnomes and dwarves under the secret tutelage of the United Commonwealth of Toril)
Hand of Vecna - Vecna and his Legions (evil Suel humans and undead)
John Brown - The Empire of Iuz (humanoids and demons)
Riot Gear - The Solistarim (evil Flannae humans and many lawful evil and neutral evil races)
Turrosh Mak - The Orcish Empire of the Pomarj
Zelda - Ratik, the Frost Barbarians, the Snow Barbarians, the Ice Barbarians (neutral and good Suel humans)

I know that this is not a complete list.

The Scarlet Brotherhood is claimed, I know (evil Suel humans)
The Black Brotherhood is claimed (evil Suel humans)
I think some others are claimed.

I know that several people have expressed an interest in claiming powers, but have yet to make a claim (Kesh, Ronald, I know you're in this group)

Can those of you not mentioned above, who have claimed a people, nation, or power, say so here?
That way, both myself and those still wishing to claim know what has been staked out.

REMEMBER - TWO or more people can claim the same power, people, or nation (except Vecna and Kas.)
In such a case, that means the nation is divided, and may go into civil war if the two claiming it cannot agree on what to do with it!

so i arrive in the middle of a war? hmmm, very interesting, very VERY interesting...

well, vecna should have an unpleasant surprise then.
