(IR) Concerning the third IR

Kalanyr, I do not know the level of the highest level drow on Oerth.
Had it been 2nd edition, I would have said 30th level, but in 3rd edition I do not know.

Kalanyr, I do not speak for the elves now.
Alyx does, since he controls Celene, the Lendore Isles, and Varnaith (Highfolk is not yet claimed.)
You should address your question to Alyx, therefore.

Alyx, you are free to answer Kalanyr in any way you wish! (if that means the drow and elves ally, so be it ... that will make pleasant hearing for certain parties.)

Ronald, please feel free to e-mail anyone you want! By all means, carry on e-mail correspondence. There is nothing like subterfuge and plotting. :D

Ronald, nobody has taken any of the three you mentioned.
However, if nobody claims those powers before the start of the IR, the following powers go to you, in addition to Furyondy, Veluna, and Keoland: Gran March, Sterich, the Yeomanry, the three Uleks, Highfolk, the People of the Vesve, the Free City of Dyvers, the Free City of Verbobonc, and the gnomes and dwarves of the northern Lortmils (NOT to be confused with the Lortmil Technocracy further south.)
In effect, this means the Grand Alliance has taken shape (although you may call it something else if you wish.)
Nyrond, Greyhawk, and the Urnsts WILL NOT join the Grand Alliance, UNLESS someone claims those powers and states they are allying with you.

A note: The power of the Drow of Oerth, and of the Orcish Empire of the Pomarj, as well as that of the Church of Shade (from Toril), will be greater than I first stated (see the old Read Only boards.)
This is due to extensive preparations those powers have made (although you'all are jumping the gun slightly here. I'm not quite ready to start this uproar yet ...)

Zeif, Ekbir, Tusmit, Ket, Ull, Istivar, and the Spirit Empire of Garnak are all Baklunish Nations.
I am now ruling that one person could claim them all ... IF that happens, and if only one person claims all of these nations, the Baklunish Confederation is created (you may call it anything you like, of course.)
A brave move ... I hope someone does this.
After all, both Vecna and Kas are claimed, and both are emerging into the world in the Spirit Empire of Garnak, and that means immediate war. (Even if Vecna wasn't what he is, and even if Kas wasn't what he is, the Suel and Baklunish hate each other, and have done so for thousands of years.)

I MUST HAVE a claimant for Greater Ahlissa.
After all, this is the singest greatest power in the eastern Flanaess.
Greater Ahlissa is an evil nation, comprised mainly of Oeridian humans.

It would be nice to have a claimant for the Great Kingdom of Northern Aerdi (once known as North Province), since it is also a major power in the east, neutral, and composed of Oeridian humans.

Black Omega, no familiarity is required at all, although I suggest you try the link supplied by Turrosh Mak above (maps always help, and my thanks to Turrosh Mak for the link.)

There are four elven powers currently unclaimed.

One is Highfolk, a high elven region butressed by a great mountain fortress-city. This is a fairly formidable power.

The second I simply refer to as The People of the Vesve Forest. Most of these people are elven, and elven culture prodominates (a few humans are present, along with the gnomes of the far northern Sepia Uplands.)

The third is the Valley of the Mage, where the valley elves work for the mysterious archmage who rules there and his drow second in command (who is neutral in alignment, along with the elves themselves.)

Highfolk is the most friendly of the elven settlements to humans and the others, and has long been a staunch ally and supporter of Veluna, the People of the Vesve, and to a lesser extent Furyondy against the Empire of Iuz, the raiders of Ket, and the dangers that occasionally come down oout of the Yatil mountains.

The last are the Free Peoples of Adri Forest.
Although humans and gnomes hide out in this huge forest, elves are the real strength and power here.
Deep within Adri Forest is a terrible secret, a secret the elves have kept, and it will stay a secret until Adri Forest is claimed.

This is akin, I believe, to sticking my hand into the fire, considering their location, but... if they're still open, I'll claim the Uleks (County, Duchy, and Principality). Gee, the Technocracy on one side and the Pomarj on the other... Celene my only ally, and I'm mad at them. I can tell I'm going to go *splat*. :D Ronald, if you'd like them, since you claimed them first, go ahead. However, if it was just an academic question... mine. ;) Now, I think it's time for Prince Corond to start making friends...

40 years?? hmm, does my faction (legions of Kas) come in at the end of the 40 years (i.e. the start of the thread)? Or do i get to make preparations also?

thanks in advance!

As Edena said that the neighboring states would only fall to me if unclaimed, I believe you are Lord of the Three Uleks. I will e-mail you shortly for a discussion of some of my concerns, and possibility for mutual cooperation. I will likely do some correspondence with at least some of my fellow thread members this weekend.

The elves reject this offer | Vernaith and Celene ally covertly

Kalanyr said:
[1- Find the few abberant good drow that exist (If none do, pput helmets of Opposite Alignment on a small amount (say 50) LE drow

2- Convince these now good aligned drow the we the drow of Oerth want peace with the elves

3- Send them off as messengers

The drow embassy to Celene enters the court of the elf queen Yolande.
Surrounded by a ring of elven warriors, with invisible mages floating overhead in a silent escort, the procession arrives at the hall of the Queen. Standing before her throne, the drow ask for peace, an alliance between the drow and the surface elves.
Murmurs break out in the court, washing through the throng of gathered courtiers, warriors, and diplomats. One of the invisible court wizards alights before the throne and tells the queen that, despite the fact that they have removed any and all magical items from the hands of the drow, they still detect as good.
The crowd shies back from the throne as the queen scowls, aborting her quiet discussion with the red clothed elf next to her. Another court wizard casts a spell, raising her voice beyond mortal limits. “This is a trick of our enemies. The nation of Celene - the olves of Celene! - Will not consort with other powers, and never,” she says, holding up one finger for emphasis “with our dark brethren. We will never beg for the help of any nation, nor accept the same despicable weakness from others. Remove this foul matter from our court.”
As one, the crowd of elves before the queen begin to clap and jeer as the drow are forced out of the court by their escorts. The queen smiles diplomatically, coldly, at her people. Then she turns to the elf next to her, an elf who wears a pale red glove on a single one of his two hands. In a quiet voice, her magically enhanced volume dispelled, she returns to a whispered conversation “Vernaith has agreed to act in concert with us then?”
“It has, your majesty.” The elf replies, his voice also quiet.
“It seems a shame we must unite with a nation that consorts with the lower peoples, vermin all.”
“They are already second class citizens in Vernaith, your Majesty. And with our aid and counsel, they will not remain part of Vernaith for long. Your diplomats and I will see to that.”
“Of course.”

Down in the crowd, a well-built elf in burnished armor stays silent, despite the clapping that still continues about him. The attempt to rescue the drow from wherever they are taken would take place this very night. He turns to leave, striding from the court; the symbol on his cloak reveals itself. The Emblem of Luna.

OOC: Unless Edena states otherwise, the Knights of Luna extract the drow ambassadors from under the eyes of Celene that night. After interrogating the dark elves (who I assume are naturally good inclined, and were somehow convinced to bring an offer of peace to the elves of Celene), the Knights send their own delegation to the drow, requesting an audience between the drow leaders and the prince of Celene on a matter of some import (Over to you, Kalanyr. I think the Luna delegation is in trouble!).

Vernaith also refuses the drow elves, although in a more diplomatic fashion.

I've already claimed Greater Ahlissa, Rel Astra, northern Aerdi and Medegia in a post on the old messageboard. I will now repost what I wrote. I hope this clears things up a bit:

It seems I've expressed my intentions unclearly. That is because until now they have been. I've toyed with an idea of playing as the ruler of Rauxes, who in the magical cataclysm of the battle of Rauxes became merged with the essence of a pit-fiend. The legion of this pitfiend then would have split and the smaller part being thrown out of Hell with its ruler and invading Ahlissa to reestablish the rule of the Ivids. But this was not to be. Instead I decided on a more down to Oerth approach.
I will not post the details of the back-story now but essentially what happened is this (if Edena approves). 30 years ago a plan was set into motion. After 6 years that plan led to fruition with the overthrow of the political leadership of Greater Ahlissa and the emergence of a new power-structure. This new system was quite similar to the Stalinism of the Soviet 1930s and 40s, without the workerclass rethoric and rampant incompetence but with a solid government control of all factors of the citicen's lifes. This enabled a massive economical and military mobilization. Society was still medieval in technology but the burocracy was approaching 20th-century levels. Another 6 years later massive armies marched into the Northern Province of Aerdy and there became embroiled in a lengthy and horribly expensive war of attrition. After 6 years all of the North was finally under government control but the proud armies of The great Empire of (Aerdy/Aerdi (sp?)) were exhausted and society was showing signs of collapse. 1 year later this social tention exploded into a popular revolt in the north which raged on for five years before it was utterly crushed. After this the Emperor solidified his control of the country and started to undermine the established religions, many of which had supported the uprising. The Great Empire of Aerdi once again grew steadily in power and now stands ready to go to war once again.

If it was not entirely clear before I shall make it so now; I claim the rulership of the Great Empire of Aerdi (Ahlissa, Rel Astra, northern Aerdi and Medegia). I do this to cut down on the number of empty chairs in the thread and for my own selfish pleasure.

Well, if Edna has no objections, I'm claiming the Yeomanry League then. I'll have to read up on it again when I get back to college, just to make sure I represent it correctly, but it should be fun. :)

Alyx- I need more info on these Knights of Luna before I decide what to do. (FYI was seriously considering making Kalanyr himself good-aligned at one point so things may not be as bad as you think (I'm changing his alignment to CN now that I think about it)
For now I'll assume they're a group of good aligned elves who wish to reuunite with the drow. The good drow would have shown the same alignment even without any magic items if I had to use the Helms they instantaneously change alignment.

Edena- I've changed some of my preparations to reflect the change in Kalanyr's alignement.

I'll assume your lack of response to 7 means it was successful?
This places Kalanyr as an Anarchic Half-Fiend Drow Male CN Wizard 20/Archmage 5/Loremaster 2/Fighter 4/Ranger 4. CR 39 or 40 depending on what you count the base drow as (Ooh Elminstericous and it wasn't even intentional)

Kalanyr will meet with the Knights of Luna (using illusions to mask his rather unsightly appearance if necessary he will forgo all illusions and alignment concealing magic to prove his intent to the Knights), he expresses interest in the meeting with the Prince and suggests the plane of Ysgard as a meeting place since even if there is teachery there it will not be permanent.
