" (IR) " means what, exactly?

I hope you'll forgive my ignorance, but I've seen IR on a few subject headings recently, and I just can't figure it out.

Like many acronyms, I'm sure it'll seem obvious when I know.

IR = Internet Relay?

I always thought IR or IRC was Internet Relay Chat.. probably wrong though. If by some miracle I am correct, I still have no idea exactly why or how it got that name. It didn't seem interesting enough to look up or research. Hope that helps some ;-)

IR stands for Industrial Revolution.

I have created a 'what if' scenario on the world of Oerth.
The 'what if' concerns a worldwide telepathic broadcast by a mysterious person known only as The Wanderer.

In this broadcast, he shows terrible horrors that have occurred on the world of Toril, due to an industrial revolution that took place there and caused massive consequences.
He wants that not to happen on Oerth, but the Torilians have already started an industrial revolution in secret on Oerth, in the Lortmil mountains, among the dwarves and gnomes there.

The Wanderer discovered this secret effort, and now he has sent out this great Sending, hoping the people of Oerth will kick the Torilians back where they belong.

The question is ... would your character do what the Wanderer wants? What would he do? Let's say he's a mover and shaker on Oerth. He sets policy, and decides things for hundreds of thousands of people.
What would he do, after receiving this Sending?

The Sending was pretty ghastly.

I know that my Greyhawk characters would most CERTAINLY would respond to that Sending.
If my characters were movers and shakers, they most definitely would have something to say about the matter!

In that hypothetical situation, my characters wouldn't sit back, and let the depraved and crazy Torilians overrun and ruin my world.
