(IR) OOC Discussion: The Fate of the IR

From my point of view the 5th IR seems well and truly dead, and should someone start another I'd have to gather an opinion of it before declaring an intent to join.

I agree that the 5th IR seems to be dead. Additionally, I understand the reservations that some people have about another game. It is only fair that we have an idea about the nature of any game before joining it.

Similarly, I agree with the need to get a firm commitment from a GM. In the case of a game like the 5th IR, I honestly think that two co-DMs are needed. The game is complex. Additionally, if one GM is ill or has unforseen complications, we can either continue at a slower pace or recruit another GM.

Additionally, I think we need a firm commitment from players. I am NOT talking about anyone who has posted to this thread. However, we did have the players of several major factions in the 5th IR leave the game without telling the GM. I think it is only common courtesy to tell a GM if you can no longer play in a game. (Sometimes, players have real life headaches to deal with that take them away from a game. This is understandable. However, a brief note to a GM on or off the boards can help keep a game going. It also helps avoid worrying about someone.) So, if there is a new game, I think it is only fair that everyone commit to it, or tell a GM when they can no longer play.

I agree with thee William, so ... if new game will spring, I commit myself interested in playing it. :)
If game will not be, then ... Sigh, I apologise everyone for bothering and give warm goodbye to all splendid fellow Players. But I won't stay static, this is far from true ! ;) :]

Kalanyr and me were considering doing a Dual DM'ed 6th IR, but while we have the insanity, he lacks the time unfortunately to DM (understandably) :( I'm still considering taking up the mantle with someone else, but I'd be very picky with who I'd choose for sharing this task. Looks like the 5th IR is sadly dead however *sigh*

Sorry for coming late to the thread, but anyway...

It certainly seems like Serpenteye isn't coming back for the time being, and the IR should eb put into a grave (a shallow one so we can dig it out when he returns). As for joining a new IR... propably not for some time, as I've adjusted my time with the assumption that the game is dead.:(

It really seems that my DMs have the habit to vanish from the face of the (EN)World...:\

Knight Otu, I doubt that Serpenteye could revive the 5th IR. :( For one thing, he would likely have to start over as too many of the people who signed up to play also vanished. Several of these represented major powers. For myself, I hope Serpenteye is well and will return when he can.

Sollir, if I was not in grad school, I would be tempted to co-DM. My advice is to try to find a co-DM whose style and abilities will complement yours.

To any potential co-DMs out there, I would describe an IR as a game of roleplaying and strategy, where the players control personal PCs and nations. (I would argue that the roleplaying aspects -- creating alliances and inspiring entire nations is a very crucial aspect of an IR.) Also, a game like the 3rd IR or the 5th IR requires a great deal of effort. I think it almost mandates co-DMs.

While I will not have the time to serve as a DM, I am willing to help out with advice and resources. I think one of the things that made the 5th IR so enjoyable even in the prepatory OOC threads is the effort that people put into the game. From the creative map making of James Heard and Guilt Puppy, to the research on the World of Greyhawk that many of us did to learn more about the setting, the players proved to be one of the best resources and sources of help for the GM. So, while we are figuring out what will come, I think everyone who contributed to the 5th IR deserves a round of applause -- and my respect.

I think that it is good to hope. However, I think at this point my hopes are centered on Serpenteye himself as opposed to the game.

So, Knight Otu, keep hoping!

Two weeks late, still had the feeling I should drop in here. First of all, I hope Serp's doing ok. As quite some time passed since he vanished, I fear there's no chance of telling of he'll be back any time soon or not. Let us hope for the best.

Second of all, for a new IR, I'll be quite low on time next couple of weeks. As this usually is the setup-phase, that shouldn't be too much of a problem if I were to attend, but it does prohibit me from being a DM. Then again, even if I did have the time, I doubt Í'd be a good DM, but that's a whole other story :]

Venus, don't worry about being late. Some people have not shown up yet, so you have them beat. ;)

I hope that Serpenteye is well, and will eventually return. So far, we are not even in the start up phase of a new game .... so no worry about being busy.

In the good news, I will be on break as of tonight. So, I will try to show up in the IR chat more often. Heck, if anyone wants, we can even get an IR chat together.

So far, Sollir has expressed a willingness to co-DM. So, maybe we can see about another person on the boards who is willing to step up to the plate. I can promise my services as a sounding board for ideas.
