[Iron Heroes] What's this game all about?

In answer to the thread title... IH is about kickin' butt and takin' names... and the pencil just broke so we're just down to kickin' butt. I like the system, overall. As others have noted... there are problems. As a DM you will have to make some decisions about how to fix them. But it's a lot of fun... there is no denying that.

Having run a game from lev 1-17 using the system let me say a few things. There is much potential for abuse of the feat system. a few of the chains to be frank are a bit much, specifically the one that increases the ammount of dr provided by armor. It makes many of the high level monsters in the game (d20 in general but most damningly in the iron heroes monster book itself) laughable.
Really?

IMX, spending FIVE (count 'em) feats to suffer -5 hp damage per attack doesn't seem all that powerful. Granted, I'm only up to 6th-level PCs in my current game, but the armiger is certainly no more powerful than the other PCs, and he's definitely an Armor Mastery kind of guy.
in short, if your weapon master wants to take the armor tree, don't let him. that would have solved the only major problem i had.
Again, interesting. Weapon Masters don't even have good Armor feat mastery, and overall, the class seems a bit on the weak side. It'll be interesting to see how my IH campaign evolves compared to yours!

How do the Mastery feats work? I think that you go by the chart on each character, and they have a mastery number based on level. I assume this means that you can use your feat (slot) for any feat with that mastery level or lower. Is that right?

If I have Finesse Mastery 3, can I pick a feat starting at Mastery level 3, or do I have to take the "base feat" first, and then level 3 in it? I read somewhere that you don't have to take the Masteries in order.

This runs counter to the vast majority of the comments I've seen on the IH boards. For one thing, creatures with DR/magic generally ignore DR from Armour, and D20 has a lot of monsters with DR/magic. Can you give us some specific examples of "laughable" encounters you had? Yours is a very different experience to what seems to be the norm, and I'm curious to work out why that is.

You don't have to take the feats in order, but you do have to take the Mastery 1 feat to take any above it.

That is what I though...

Another thing... I didn't see any mention of races. They have Class section, but no Races. Are we supposed to use the standard D&D races? The ones from AE? Or is everyone a Human by default?

Everybody is by default human, but everybody also gets to choose two "Traits" from amongst a long list. These Traits takes the place of standard D&D races.
