Iron Kingdom Setting news?

Well, one campaign is drawing near its end and a new one will be beginning soon and we're showing interest in the Iron Kingdoms Setting from Privateer Press. Rumor has it that it has gone to the press and is being printed right now...

I was just wondering if we've got any "insiders" here at ENWorld who have any thoughts about the setting or if anyone else has anything to say about this hot new setting soon to be hitting the shelves...

Well, I can't say a huge amount about it, as I don't have the book yet. But I have played through the Witchfire Trilogy, and think the setting as presented there is great. I've got the Lock & Load primer, and every indication is that Privateer Press does absolutely top-notch work, if not always terribly on-time work.

I'll be buying it!

I can confirm that it's not a rumor. That was posted on may 29 on the PP Forums :

1) The Iron Kingdoms Character Guide—Full Metal Fantasy: Volume 1
We shipped our files to the printer on Thursday. That beast is nearly done! And when I say beast, I mean this is the kind of book you're not going to want to drop on your toe. Final page count: exactly 400 pages. True to our form, we just don't know when to quit. So, after a marathon week, sequestering ourselves at the office for one final 100 hour sprint to the finish, the last stroke was applied to a project 18 months in the making. Now, it's in the hands of the printer. I don't like to speculate on the shipping date, but they've said 'a few weeks'...so with luck, it will show up before the end of June. Did we say 2003? We meant 2004! Thanks for your patience and support...or at least for sticking with us...while we finished this thing to our satisfaction.

I'm patiently waiting for the release... well I'm waiting since the release of the first chapter of the Witchfire Trilogy ^^

I agree with Kid Charlemagne. To me, one of the best settings ever. If I wasn't dying in front of my computer I would write half a page about it. But now I'm going to bed before I fall asleep in my chair and give myself a cookie for being able to catch a cold one day before summer.

I will edit my post tomorrow with more solid arguments, but for now may I suggest taking a look here if you haven't already : http://www.privateerpress.com/IRONKINGDOMS/

I won't believe it truly exists until they pry it into my cold dead hands!

Yeah, really. Two years ago I would have been interested in this, but now I just don't care. Privateer has made its priorities clear. Warmachine comes first and I have no problem with that, but I'm not going to wait and beg for RPG material that's going to be years in coming either. I'll give my RPG money to companies that take RPGs seriously.

The problem with that conspiracy theory is that Privateer Press have been working on the IK books at the same time as making Warmachine, and have different people working on each project.

If you think PP don't take rpg's seriously, then why did they spend their time trying to put out the best product possible rather than rushing a substandard one out the door? Of course, whether or not they've achieved that aim is yet to be seen, but it's not as if they couldn't be bothered to write the books and just dropped all work on them to go and do something more interesting. They have been working on them all this time.

I just think a lot of people are exasperated, perturbed and anxious about the IK because they have been waiting YEARS for the setting to finally reach our steel plated digits! I don't think anyone really thinks that way. Although giving us some much time to think about the setting before actually getting to see it was bound to produce an irrate theory or two! :)
I mean hey, i need a setting that will let me use my new spiffy copy of Steam & Steel, heh? ;)
