Iron Kingdoms Game (OOC)

Greetings folks,

I'm just about to start a tabletop Iron Kingdoms game set in the Cygnaran city of Ceryl. I'm still working out the details of the game and thought it would be a neat idea to start a seperate PbP game which would run parallel to it; same city, same general power level, same timeline but different characters. I was thinking that both games could inform the other by fleshing out NPCs, helping me detail locations, sketching out plotlines, etc ...

The PbP game would be very RP-heavy and I'd be interested in having characters with fully fleshed-out backgrounds and that also may have real group affiliations. Combat can be a fun break, but it generally takes sooooo long in the PbP format, and really, combat in the IK is very similar to combat in a number of other D&D settings (well, except for the guns, that is). The PCs would probably start at 3rd or 4th level and could come from any part of the Iron Kingdoms. I'm thinking of starting it in early 605 AR, with Khador already having begun the invasion of Llael. The war itself would figure heavily in the game, although it wouldn't be all-encompassing, as Ceryl is a bit removed from the main front. It is, however, the northern headquarters of the Cygnaran Navy, so the military presence there is strong. Where the adventures would go would depend very heavily on the type of characters the players would create.

I don't know what people's general feeling is toward the Iron Kingdoms around here, so I thought I'd float this idea first. Obviously familiarity with the setting would be important, although that could be picked up along the way. Mainly I'd be interested in finding a dedicated group of players who are interested in helping to fully explore the potential of this extremely detailed and rich setting (and work out any bugs in the rules).

So, any interest out there?

I've pimped the setting hard elsewhere, but I'll spew some more fanboy ramblings here if you like.

~ I enjoy the conflict. The nations wage war for realistic reasons, not just good guy vs. bad guy stuff.

~ I enjoy the politics! There is a much more 'real' feel to the way the nations react to each other.

~ Dungeons suck! I love a setting like this where you aren't part of a party that adventures to go into deep, dark tombs with the only reason being the desire to get treasure.

~ The races are just tops. Elves are handled very well, dwarves are fun, and the two new races (ogrun and trollkin) are flavorful and interesting. Plus, the world is unabashedly human-centric (I know there is a correct term for that, but I can't remember it). People actually want to play them more often than not, especially if the optional ability adjustments are used.

~ Mechanika is great and fun. The upcoming mechanika book promises to be excellent.

~ The writing is some of the best in the industry, IMO. THe World Guide is the best setting book I have ever read.

~ The writers (Doug Seacat in particular) are very supportive of the world and are easily accessibe through the PP forums.

I really love the setting. The only ones that come close for me are Planescape and Eberron (in some cases).

IK has some of the best Fluffy around... the things I love about it is that the world is not huge BUT is really well fleshed out, the government seems 'more real', the religions are cool and interesting etc, the cultures are great AND the artwork is some of the best I have ever seen in a rpg! etc ;)

NOTE I am also very interested in a PBP set in the world :D

The reason I'm planning on setting the game in Ceryl is because you can play lots of different types of games.

Your near the Scharde islands, so you could play an anti-Cryxian or pirate game.
You're in the northern naval capitol of Cygnar, so you could play a naval war game against the forces of Khador.
You're right next to Ord (and Five Fingers in particular) so you could deal with arrogant and upstart Castellan.
You've got a large Mercarian League outpost, so you could deal with trade issues and industrial espionage.
You've got the Strangelight Workshop, which could send you on all kinds of strange and magic-themed adventures.
The Fraternal Order of Wizardry is headquartered there, so you could deal with the politics of a wizard-run city.
You've got one of the largest outposts of the Golden Crucible, which means you could base an entire campaign on the Ceryl being one of the prime manufacturers of blasting powder in all of Cygnar after the invasion of Llael.

Etc ...

Etc ...

I love IK. Count me in for this game!

I haven't played a PbP game before but I'm really digging IK. I bought the books recently (World Guide, Campaign Guide) and I've been looking for an excuse to set aside some time and dive into them.

I thought I'd get my name on the list as 'interested', but must refrain on committing just yet. Please allow me to keep an eye on things and see where it goes. Let it be said that I LOVE this setting (even though an equivilant +1 weapon's design is an undertaking in itself). So, I'll keep an eye on where it's all going. Cheers!

Alex, I am in two of your other games, I also know nothing about IC. In fact I do not think I ever heard of it outside this board.

So I am interested, but I am not sure how I would rank in your priority list.

You would rank because you are interested. As you can see, the response is measured, yet steady. I'm still trying to figure the campaign out.
