Let me clarify. I understand and agree that WOTC has the right to, can and should protect their IP. I never meant to intimate that they should not do so.
However, in my opinion, the act of protecting that IP should not prevent their customers from using that IP for it's intended purpose. EG: playing the game in a manner of their choosing. Especially after having bought the license to use said IP.
In reference to the comment of "Because WotC have their own competing software that they want people to pay to use." As one of the other responders was kind enough to point out: No, they don't "have their own software" that does anything even similar to what Masterplan does. That's part of the problem.
In reference to the comment "This is a valid gripe. However, it's a valid gripe against Masterplan, not against WotC. It's their software that is failing to do what it should do, and there are ways they could work around this; if they have not, then that is their failing." I agree, however the reason that it is a "failing" of masterplan is because of their being forced to comply with WOTC's edicts.
Essentially, complying with WOTC's admittedly valid requests has hampered and limited the use of a otherwise fully-functional and etremely useful piece of software that serves a purpose wanted by WOTC's customers that they, themselves have chosen, by accident or design, to not fulfill on their own.
I do not understand why WOTC would choose to limit or hinder their own customers use of the product that that customer has bought the licensing for in such a way as to make it harder to use said IP for it's intended purpose.
Again, this is only my opinion and Your Mileage May Vary.
As an aside, through some trial and error and a little fiddling, I was able to find a way around this particular roadblock.
I GOT A 4!!!! DID YOU HEAR ME??? I SAID...
