D&D 4E Is 4E winning you or losing you?

I hadn't really considered 3.5 to be at its expiration date yet, and didn't believe it the first couple of times I was told 4e was coming-- heard it too many times already-- so I was a little shocked when I discovered it.

But I'm seeing Star Wars Saga Edition and Tome of Battle being cited as major inspirations, and they're talking about design concepts I've always considered important, and I'm intrigued by some of the new ideas I've seen mentioned.

So I'm definitely warming up to the idea.

Well I'd pretty much given up on 3.5ed in frustration (was planning doing some large-scale house-ruling when 4ed was announcd). I've liked virtually everything I've heard about 4ed so far, basically every single thing I was thinking of houseruling they're doing for me, plus some cool stuff I didn't think of. The only thing that's got me annoyed is the magical traditions sillyness (ice + acid = WFT?!!).

I was intially hopeful, became very depressed, and then realized it doesn't matter if I like 4E or not. I still got game no matter what.

I don't know what to think, but I know that whether or not the game improves generally, there are definitely a lot of changes I do not prefer.

Really hard to say. I do think 3.5 could use changing and I am hoping 4E will make those changes, but I am leery of the new mechanics that are coming out. Particularly the word 'simplify' because in a lot of cases it means 'dumb down' and that I cannot support.

However the tide of speculation is definitely losing me, and that is my own fault for reading it. I want to se 4E, not 8 months of specualtion.

If I become a playtester, I would love it, but if not, I will probably stop reading ll this stuff for a while, like 8 months

Started out excited and prudently optimistic, went to decidedly underwhelmed, moved basically to hatred by the revised wizard article.

Not to hijack, but I really don't understand the level of hatred. They've already said that those traditions are not replacements for schools or anything like that. Every indication (which, admittedly, isn't much) is that they're easily eliminated and/or changed. I guess I just don't see why it would make so big a difference, positive or negative.

I am extremely excited, verging on ecstatic.

So far there hasn't been a single thing I've heard about the new system that I'm not either eager to try or have been trying for sometime now.

Seriously, it's like Gleemax and my brain are talking while I sleep.

I'm certain there will be rough edges, but from what I can see I could not be happier about the basic direction with the added bonus that every detail thus far only adds to my glee.

If they reveal that the Sorceror is indeed gone as an independent class I may consider wearing a tinfoil hat.

The only thing I hate about 4e is that I lost a bet because of it. Oh well.

While I'm reading all the news, I'm going to base my buying decision on the introductory adventure, H1: Keep on the Shadowfell. I'm going to run the adventure with my group. If I like running it, I'll buy all three 4e core books. If I don't like running it, I'll probably just buy the PHB under the assumption that I can have fun playing anything if I with the right people.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Unless I become of playtester (unlikely) I'll probably stay that way because I don't see a substantial amount of info coming out until it's been published.
