Is an index important to you

Small and well-planned books may not need an index very much, but in general it always makes it easier to search specific things. Pretty obvious...

I vote yes! An index is so useful when needing to find an entry during a game session, or even just remembering which book a given rule, class, feat..etc is in.

Having just completed a game where we needed to look up the effects of "shaken" & about 20 different spells, I'd say, "HECK, YES!" an index is important to me. I almost blew a gasket when I found that the Sharn Hardcover from WotC included no index. If I need to look up a detail in-game quickly, I need to waste as little time as possible!

Let's keep those Indices coming, publishers!!!!

If the book contains rules or is a reference it needs an index. A glossary in addition is also very helpful.

I like indexes in most of my books. Adventures, I don't feel, need indexes but most any other type of rule book needs to have an index. Especially campaign setting books - those are essential imo.

Wow! This poll is overwhelmingly in favour of indexes! Lets hope someone at WotC notices (or better yet send an email to them expressing how much in favour you are of indexes!)

I just made a quick scan of my books, and all the 3rd-party ones I have have indices. WotC on the other hand seems to have more without indices than ones with. Perhaps this is just a WotC issue.

It's true that in some cases TOCs alone will suffice, but having an index sure adds to ease of use.

It is not a just a WotC issue (and note that, until recently, most every WotC hardcover book had an index) . I have a shelf full of 3rd party books and not one of them has an index

An index is essential to making a book useful as a reference. Not including one means that the book will see very little use at my table, unless it includes something that I have to use, in which case I end up with a bunch of post-it flags sticking out of the book. It's not worth having to dig through an entire chapeter at the table to find something that I know is there.

depends on the size of the work. but i would say yes for anything over say... 99 pages.

I did wonder whether to say options of Yes for any size, or Yes for books over a certain size (probably would have made it 48 or 96 pages).
