D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

The Concentration rule is there as an attempt to limit spellcasters so that martials have some hope in hell of being vaguely balanced. I like it.

I like concentration as is ... I'd probably rewrite the Smite series of spells to be a reaction on a hit instead. Or only last the round they are cast and not require Concentration. Basically, my take is Concentration is fine, but some specific spells are challenging with it.

Let me add my voice to the many posters that said something around the lines of "while the balance of spells that should require it and those that shouldn't could be revised, I love the concept and its implications".

I still think that "concentration" might not be the best term since it has nothing to do with our everyday definition of concentration, but I have no replacement proposition other than "held" spells.

We add a feat, Focused Caster, which allows a caster to concentrate on more than one spell. However, each additional concentration spell requires a Concentration check (DC equals 10 + the spell level) when cast. If it fails, all currents spells fail. If you take damage, you make a check for each concentration spell in effect, losing all if you fail any check.

With this feat, we see two concentration spells sometimes, and very rarely 3 or more attempted. It works well to keep a balance of power when it comes to spellcasters, but allow enough flexibility when desired.

Too much of an easy mode, way to easy for casters compared to for example martial classes. At least now, in addition to making things more balanced (not completely, but way better), it forces casters to be more creative and make choices, or, even better, to collaborate. You can still have someone scout by flying invisibly, but it's not in addition to everything else. Or use resources like potions, which is cool as well.
