Is D&D a Moral Universe?

All those evil monsters in the MM are there to be killed by the PCs. The PCs are the balancing factor here. Given they are more likely to succeed than fail, in most games I've played in anyway, I guess we have to conclude that good tends to win out over evil in most DnD universes. That could however be said to be a convention of the game rather than the universe where the game takes place.

Of the 19 gods listed in the PHB, 8 are good, 5 evil and 6 neutral as regards good and evil.
