For a campaign setting I could see a similar motif working. For the core books, I don't think so.
For me, it really has more to do with Zagig Yragerne and Pluffet Smedger than anything else. Those were Gary's noms de plume. I would find it more than a bit akin to signing his name to my own work. Not cool.
Smedger would only the author of OS&S and AS&S 1e.
The Second Edition of AS&S would be by an Oerth alter-ego of Zeb Cook.
The Third Edition of S&S would be authored by alter-egos of Jonathan Tweet, Monte Cook, and Skip Williams.
S&S 4e would be by alter-egos of Mike Mearls, etc.
The Oerthian S&S game might be called a different name in each of the different worlds. It might have been designed by a different historic personage in each world (such as Astinus in Krynn).
