Is it just me, or are WotC minis...

The overall quality of the minis has definitely been going downhill for some time now.

I second this (actually I think you seconded this first). IMO more and more of the paint jobs on the latest sets of minis don't seem much better than my own early attempts at painting miniatures (little or no shading, basic colors with little definition, expressionless faces, etc.).

There have always been a range of silly monsters and cool ones, but I do feel that there are many more silly ones now than there used to be. Creatures used to be drawn heavily from legend, myth and folklore. Now they seem to be designed based on what a cool power or look would be (by someone whose ideas about cool I do not agree with, I might add.)
Well, did you recently have a look at the 4E MM?
The creatures drawn from legend, myth and folklore is very low. And those that are have been reimagined to be 'cooler'. I.e. the minis accurately represent what's in the MM.

Actually, it makes me think of Christ the Redeemer ('Cristo Redentor') atop Corcovado mountain in Rio de Janeiro.
Good catch. Personally, I'm reminded of the Twelve Prophets sculpted by Brazilian master Aleijadinho in the 18th century:

In fact, next time I'm making a stone golem (picture, not an actual golem, eh?), I'm swiping from the master!
