Let me know your vote. It is great that FR and Eberron are still being supported and that 2010 and beyond are still an unknown as far as campaign support, but would WotC be doing itself a favor or not by releasing a new setting in conjunction with 4E release?

I picked "yes". Something that has a dark theme similar to Ravenloft would be nice. :)
...or they could just update Ravenloft.

With the 1 setting/year policy, they're set for a long time. Eberron in 2009 is a given; after that, there's high demand for Dark Sun, Ravenloft, and Dragonlance. At that point, they can either go into lower-demand properties (e.g. Planescape, Spelljammer) or they can develop one of the two Campaign Setting Contest runners-up. But we're still talking no earlier than 2013.

Yep, it will be a long time before we get anything new. Nostalgia sells and people are afraid of change so I doubt WotC will surprise us with anything new.

I'd love to see something different. Of course I wouldn't mind seeing third party publishers give it a shot. Midnight and the Iron Kingdoms are two great examples of "outside" settings.

They basically have a new setting. The 'default' world that is featured in all the core books.
Yes and no.

According to my own made up definition of "RPG setting", a setting requires a map and a history.

We'll be getting neither of these from the core.

Of course, it'd make for a very interesting community project.
