D&D General Is the Community Moving Away from Twitter? If so, Where?

With all this talk about social media moving away from Twitter, is the RPG/D&D community showing signs of moving? And if so, where are the leaders going?

I'm more interested in the behavior of the trend setters (Critical Role, WotC, Paizo, etc) might be moving than a given individual (at this time).

The companies aren't (as yet) but many users are moving to Mastodon. Couple of relevant threads:

A question to consider here: What are they trying to achieve? I don't mean that in the sense of what are they trying to do to Musk's agenda - I mean what do they want to get out of wherever they go? News? Conversation? Twitter became popular and then absorbed a bunch of uses into it. That doesn't mean it was well designed for all of those purposes. Newer options may be better for particular purposes. So - to that end - what are they trying to do on social media?

What are they trying to achieve?

Largely, it would seem they want to get out of what they see as a toxic environment (funny I did the same about 2.5-3 years ago what took everyone so long...) and get the same kind of functionality but with either less, or their own run, moderation.

Frankly, I wouldnt touch any of them at this point, as I'm sure they will all get repurposed into things that are (ab)used by all the same various groups and just generally be a drain on my will to live.

i dont want to live on this planet anymore GIF

I recommend the Penny Arcade route;

To summarise;

"I guess I remember that there was an Internet before it was carved into a sequence of predicable, increasingly boring corporate fiefdoms. The purpose of these fiefdoms is to make absolutely sure you can't accomplish something online they can't monetize. If I was going to replace Twitter, you know what I would replace it with? Nothing. It's all unpaid labor. It would be better to replace it with kettle bells."
