Is the Spell Assassin's Senses too powerful?

Nope. but that's because its in Relics and Rituls, and they don't add any spells to any noon-core classes except their own. However, it would be very reasonable to add it to the list.

What happens to the criticality factor when you consider a Falchion? Here, the base criticality goes from +3 to +8! This is a huge jump, and for a two handed weapon to boot. The problem I have with this spell (as it has been described-I never actually read the book), is that it makes it so that NO ONE would want to use anything but falchions and scimitars. Things that have extra large threat ranges gain a HUGE increase from this spell. Comparing the Axe and the Sword doesn't demonstrate this. Similarly, the Scyth goes from a criticality of +3 to a +8. So in a world where any cleric can cast a 2nd level spell and warp these ratios, EVERYONE will favor the X4 and 18-20 crit range weapons.

Also, the duration of the spell is pretty irrelivant. When you consider how cheep a ring of assassin sense is, (what like 12000 gp-or less if it has charges/day), the duration is easy to get around.

Another consideration: In order for a weapon master to gain the better crit damage, once per day he needs to devote 7 feats to his PrC and be AT LEAST 9th level. So you're gonna tell me that a 2nd level spell can do the same thing for round after round (and given a falchion as the weapon of choice, you can't tell me that a crit will only come up once per combat-especially once Keen and improved critical are factored in).

Not in my campaign, no way buddy.

Heh. If you worked in corporate America, I assure, you'd know this word. A lot. Is there such a thing as corporate Australia? :)

Does this spell stack with other keen effects and the like? That's the question I'm concerned with. It still sounds rather powerful for a second level spell, but I'm honestly not sure. It's certainly a cooperative spell.

As for it being on the Assasain's spell list...the assasain is part of the SRD and the OGL, isn't it?

D.

btw. : Did you take in account the Material component of Assasins Senses? I belive either the assasins of your worlds are not worth their money or the caster will not cast this spell at all :)

Psifon: given the caveat int he DMg about comparing power levels of items before blindly following the formulae, I think 12,000gp for a ring of Assassin's Senses would be a bit cheap.

Also, as for everyone favoring high threat range weapons, doesn't the existence of Keen and Improved Critical already do that? None in my party uses 20/x2 weapons, or even 20/x4 weapons.

Wizardru: None of those effects has a bonus type, so I'd say yes it does. And yes, the Assassin is part of the OGC, but I wasn't part of the Relics and Rituals design team, so I have no idea why the spell wasn't added to the Assassin's spell list. It is in my game, that's for sure.

ragnarok: Not all professional assassins are actually good at their job. :-) Besides, with Regeneration spells available, a truly money-hungry Assassin would finda way to sell his fingers. :-)
