Is there a compiled monster list somewhere?

Wonger

First Post
I've got the MM, the MM2, Fiend Folio, the Epic Level Handbook, the Manual of the Planes, the Monsters of Faerun, and a stack of Dragon magazines among other Wizard's sources. Is there any source to go to where I can view all the monsters in one compiled list, or better yet sort the monsters by CR or type, or terrain or something?

Better yet, how about if I have non-WotC monster books too like the Monsternomicon or Creature Collection?

Anyone know of such a tool or resource?

Thanks!

My response is not an answer to your question, but an additional voice asking the same question. Compiled name, CR, type, and environ wanted for creatures. Does anyone have or know where to get such a file?

Welcome to ENWorld, Wonger! ;)

I found this compilation site last week, which is certainly helpful, but not the be all end all that Beholder Bob would like:

You should check out the other resources linked in sticky threads in the General Monster Talk forum here.

I seriously doubt there is such a beast (at least openly available), and here's why: because the monsters in the Monster Manual 2, Fiend Folio, Monsters of Faerun, Dragon issues, and other WotC sources are NOT open content (except the ones in the MM1). Therefore, such a list would be a copyright violation. [Edit: And even some of the ones in the MM1 are not open content, they are not in the SRD.]

On the other hand, the 3rd party products are generally all open content by the terms of the license, so a compilation of just the 3rd party monsters + the SRD would be perfectly Ok.

The names, alone, are much too short to be covered by copyright. You'd be well within the 'fair use' clause.

On the other hand, it's hard to guess how much you could include before you risk becoming a compilation... I wouldn't do more than name & CR.

I figured that may be a barrier, but once upon a time I stumbled on this awesome list tool on the WotC official site. It had sortable lists for monsters, spells, and feats from the core books as well as Dragon, the splatbooks, and the website only stuff. Unfortunately, I do not think that tool exists anymore (because I've searched for it a few times unsuccessfully), and even if it was still available, I doubt it would be maintained.

Here's to hoping there's something out there. The link BigFreakinGoblinoid supplied is a decent start at least.

Hey BFG - I think the website is great! It is just that I'm looking for specific data. No offense intended, and if I gave offense, my apology!
