Is there a Kingdoms of Kalamar PHB preview?

Lord Ben

First Post
We're in the process of finishing up the Temple of EE and I wanted to start a Kalamar game after that. What will be in the PHB? It says new classes and new prestige classes but is there any preview out there of what will be available? Will it be different fighters, different barbarians, etc or will there be completely new classes? I don't check the boards every day and was wondering if there was a preview posted anywhere.

Player's Guide Preview

Hey,

We have published two previews in Knights of the Dinner Table (issues 64 and 65). Mark also posted some art on another player's guide thread. However, there hasn't been a real "preview" other than those I've mentioned. I'll see what I can rustle up and post it here.

I would like to point out that the Kalamar Player's Guide is meant to supplement the D&D PHB, not replace it. There are a handful of new classes in the new player's guide, but you can also play any of the standard classes in Kalamar. The same goes for feats, skills, spells, etc. I think you'll find that the Kalamar Player's Guide increases your options but does not replace any of your old favorites.

Any anti-magic classes? One of my players wanted to be a Forsaker and worship the god that dosen't like magic, I forget the name, I told him to hold off because there might be something suitable in the players guide. One thing I'd like to see in the preview is maybe a list of new classes and a short description, no stats. Races would be interesting, will it have specialized rules options for the different human races? Ever since reading the sourcebook I've felt the Fhokki deserved some changes over the normal human template, they should have a rustic feel to them. The Dejy should also get a more nomadic feel too.

Anyways, I look forward to whatever you can rustle up. I'm not big into comics so I doubt I'll buy those episodes of Knights of the Dinner Table.

Well, Dave and I were talking about that this morning, actually.

Noah will probably be posting some preview text once a week until the Player's Guide actually hits stores. The character sheet will probably be available for download next week, as well. We'll post more as we figure out just what to preview.

In Kenzer's "Geanavue" product the character section lists the following knowledge, feats and skill as being in the "Kingdom's of Kalamar Player's Guide." Knowledge (fighting styles), Knowledge (monsters), and the Pantomime skill. Also the feats Antimage, Blessed, Cat Burglar, Champion of the Faith, Circle of Friends, Critical Spell Strike, Elemental Adept, Fast Healer, Fearless, Final Breath, Instant Stand, Silver Tongue and Sprint.

Some of these sound like they could be interesting. I'd really like to see how they work "Circle of Friends."

Glyfair:

Good eye! Of course, there will be more skills than were mentioned in Geanavue, but that's not a bad starting list.

Lord Ben: You mentioned wanting to know what new classes and prestige classes were available. Well, I don't want to give away too much, but I will give you a couple of prestige classes (no stats given here, of course). Noah will be posting other various previews as the weeks roll on until the late April release date.

Alliance Merchant: An assortment of merchants and others banded together in the Golden Alliance to help themselves individually achieve greater wealth. Certain political factors favor trade, and they work to promote those laws and factors in nations where they do business. While anyone who helps existing members gain wealth is welcome to join the network, they prefer associates who do not bring with them exceptionally powerful enemies.
Alliance merchants live throughout Tellene. They tend to be powerful political influences, using their wealth as a bargaining tool with the local ruler, always keeping in reserve the threat to move their operations elsewhere. They are particularly strong in Dowond-Brandel, Ospolen, P’Bapar, Bet Regor, Bet Kalamar, Zoa and Zha-nehzmish. Alliance merchants include Zeba Mastera, a Meznam ivory dealer, Ashaboran Renoraz, a member of the Ashoshani parliament and Tranton Vrenlal, a native of Dalen now operating a huge shipping fleet in Bet Kalamar.

Sentinel of Providence: The Order of Providence is a secret order founded to combat the intrusions of evil into Tellene from other planes. The founder, an unusual half-orc named Tabor Grimm, discovered a disconcerted pattern of intentional attacks on civilized society by fiends of all types. The Order’s goal is to fight against the machinations of these fiends and eventually destroy them.
This fiendish attack on humanity is multi-pronged. They destroy the works of art that serve as cultural bonds to a society. They destroy knowledge of architecture, science and magic. The outsiders hinder trade and communication between centers of knowledge. Lastly, they seek to manipulate selfish creatures into furthering their cause.
To be effective, the Sentinel understands that knowledge and dedication are not enough. Fiends are powerful physically, mentally and magically. The champion who would fight them wields both blade and spell. When an enemy is not directly present, the Sentinel also propagates the things the outsiders would destroy: art, culture and the free exchange of thought.
