Is there a skill-oriented paragon path?

One of my players (a human ranger) wants to optimize for skill challenges as much as combat. You guys know of any paragon paths that might help him boost skills?

Thanks!

Jack of all Trades, MP2. Will require a Rogue MC. If he's an Archer Ranger it'll work great, if he's a Str-based Ranger maybe his DM would houserule the powers to use Str. ^.^

Skill optimization would require multi-classing. The best would be MCing into Bard, for availability of the Bard of all Trades feat (+3 to all untrained skills), but he likely doesn't have the CHA for that. MCing, by itself, would likely grant an additional trained skill.

I have seriously considered the Jack of All Trades PP for an Essentials Thief. The mechanics aren't a problem, and along with the Thief having 7 trained skills (8 with a multiclass feat), everything that even smells of "thief" can be covered -- Stealth, Thievery, Acrobatics, Athletics, Perception, Insight, Dungeoneering, Arcana, Bluff, and Streetwise, with an open spot for whatever else you like. (I'd be inclined to take Endurance -- sometimes a Thief has to run for a long time.)

Once you start piling up the trained skills like that, Jack/Bard of All Trades (the feats - not the PP) starts looking less and less good*, while Disciple of Lore starts to look more and more appealing. Untyped +1 to everything I'm trained in? Why sure!

* still good, just less so. This also largely depends on campaign and your stats and which skills you don't have training in.

The Jack-of-All-Trades PP is great for covering all of the bases (and I think it's the better one to go with) but if your player is concerned with skill challenges there are two PPs from the Dark Sun CG that don't incur failures for missing by 5 or less on three specific skills during a skill challenge. They are the Arms-Troubadour (which applies to Athletics, Acrobatics, or Stealth checks) and the Shady Dealer (which applies to Bluff, Diplomacy, or Streetwise checks).

If he's Half-orc, Bloodfury Savage lets you reroll Intimidate.

Traveler's Harlequin allows multiple multi-class feats for more skill training.

Glorious Myrmidon (Fighter) gives +1 speed, +2 Acrobatics, Athletics and Endurance.

Darksun has a lot of nice options for double rolling skill checks, assuming you allow themes (or are willing to forgo that requirement).

Unwelcome Guest (Athasian Minstrel) lets you roll twice for Bluff, Stealth, and Thievery checks.

Arms-Troubador (Athasian Minstrel) lets you roll twice for Acrobatics, Athletics and Stealth. And if you fail by 5 or less, doesn't count as failure in skill challenges.

Rainbringer (Elemental Priest) can roll twice for Endurance, Heal, and Nature.

Freedom Fighter (Escaped Slave theme, or Warlord) gains and grants (to allies within 3), +2 bonus to Initiative, Perception, and Insight.

Caravan Master (Dune Trader) rolls twice for Insight and Perception.

Shady Dealer (Dune Trader) lets you roll twice for Bluff, Diplomacy and Streetwise. And if you fail by 5 or less, doesn't count as failure in skill challenges.

I might be missing some. You could also look at some skill powers like Secrets of the City, Arcane Mutterings, Legend Lore, Damning Secret, Try the Stick, etc.

Hi everyone -- thanks for the advice so far. As the player in question, let me throw out a few more facts that may help guide the conversation:

* The character is a human ranger. I appreciate the suggestions for other classes, but I can't really change from ranger to something else.

* In addition, I'm already multiclassed, into artificer. (This did have the nice side benefit of a free skill.)

* I already have Jack of All Trades.

You could take Traveler's Harlequin -- Dragon 382 -- (it's Eberron-specific, but a little flavor change makes it fit anywhere). This lets you take more multiclass feats (which, in turn, gives you more trained skills).

If themes are allowed, the Athasian Minstrel theme unlocks the Arms-Troubador PP -- DSCS -- which gives you some juicy rerolls and an action-point-fueled +5 to skill checks.
