Is there a way....???

How would one go about animating a corpse inside a creature that had swallowed it whole?

For example: My fightin' pal Bill has just been swallered' by a Purple Nurple Worm. The cleric, Jimmy, decides that he wants to animate (not raise) Bill so that his corpse can fight from inside the violet villain.

It's a touch spell. How does Jimmy the cleric pull this off?

As per the RAW, it cant be done. The corpse itself needs to be touched, however with a lenient DM, you might be able to touch the underside of the worm and have that work.

EDIT: The only sure way to pull this off as per the RAW is to use Resurrection.

Isn't there a "ghostly floating hand" spell of some sort? I remember one of these in 2E.

Helping Hand, same level as Animate Dead. 3.5 PHB, page 239

However, it doesn't do much more than entice its target to follow it.

Spectral hand, a Sorc/Wiz spell. Can deliver touch spells. Has hit points, though, so probably wouldn't survive inside a worm.

EDIT: Why is this Rules question in House Rules?

Just get swallowed. That way you'll be right next to Bill's body. Depending on the monster, this may also be safer than staying outside.
